Senior Farmers Market And Event Lead
The City of Issaquah Parks and Community Services Department invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Farmers Market and Event Lead. Under the supervision of the Rentals Supervisor, this position aids the City of Issaquah Farmers Market and outside user events at the Pickering Barn. An incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills and tact, organizational and planning ability and be able to respond to vendors, performers, or customers. Duties are often performed under stressful situations with rigid deadlines. This work requires a great deal of interpersonal activity. The work includes, day of market and event execution, assists with organizing, implementing, and evaluating market and event activity. In part: opening the facility for clients, lifting, and moving tables and chairs, overseeing event activities, assisting clients when needed, keeping the facility clean and organized, and cleaning up before and after events. The work is usually performed among others but requires the confidence to work independently. This position is part-time and consists of a semi-structured work schedule. The Famers Market hours are seasonal and consistently 6:30 am 3:30 pm each Saturday May through September. Pickering Barn event shifts are scheduled month to month year-round "as needed" based on your availability. Hours and shifts vary on any given day of the week and will vary in length, Monday through Sunday. The hours are flexible and scheduled based on the hours the venue has been rented by a client. Senior Event Leads are an integral part of our event team! SR Leads always take on obstacles with a proactive, problem-solving approach and are confident and knowledgeable in all event policies. SR Leads offer support and guidance to other PTNR staff, as well as rental clients & farmers market vendors. They possess the ability to support administrative tasks and offer positive training feedback. Work Environment This position frequently requires late evening hours and variable month to month scheduling. Most of the hours available are on the weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) but weekday hours are prevalent as well. Work may be physically demanding and require walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds. Employees climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. In some assignments, work is performed outside in all types of weather conditions. Senior leads assist with administrative tasks, and may spend periods of time working at a desk on the computer. Essential Functions
Represent the City of Issaquah with professionalism and superb customer service. Assist with weekly set-up and tear-down of the Issaquah Farmers Market at the Pickering Barn during market season, when scheduled. Communicate with potential and established Farmers Market vendors, performers, and shoppers. Communicate with rental clients and their vendor teams. Oversee Market Info Booth, Food Court, Entry & Exit Stations, etc. Help lead indoor and/or outdoor special events such as weddings, trade shows, auctions, banquets & corporate functions held at the Pickering Barn. Perform custodial and light maintenance duties, which most commonly includes full restroom cleaning & restocking, sweeping, mopping, emptying garbage inside and outside the facility, garbage transport, picking up litter, etc. Maintain program equipment in good working order and inform supervisor of necessary maintenance. Oversee event activities and provide on-site assistance during the event to clients, including supervisory monitoring of guest conduct. Assure guest safety and enforce facility, health department, and liquor department policies. Communicate with event planners, caterers, bartenders, DJ's, and all other hired vendors for the event day of providing facility assistance where needed. Lead and monitor client event clean-up after each event ensuring that equipment is organized in proper locations and cleaning is completed thoroughly. Complete end of event walkthrough evaluations. Assist supervisor with development of training materials for twice yearly PTNR staff trainings. Identify specific topics that are most relevant to our staff at the current time. Conduct initial shift trainings for new employees and assist with ongoing training of current employees. Ensure that facility emergency supplies and safety preparedness measures are current & documented Distribute recruitment and outreach marketing materials for farmers market & market volunteers. Recruit individual volunteers as well as volunteer groups for farmers market. Schedule and confirm 6-10 volunteers for each market. Assist management with planning of volunteer appreciation event or gifts post season. Review Business & Nonprofit applications for farmers market. Coordinate with market manager to assign space to Business and Non profit vendors on a first come, first served basis. Check volunteers in each day, review responsibilities and location assignments. Work with the market manager each week to review staffing & volunteer levels. Provide information to B&NP vendors prior to the market covering FAQs, load-in & load-out, and market policies. Conduct outreach and recruiting to B&NP in Issaquah that align with and support the mission of the market. Learn the process for market check in & be able to manage the register during check in. Understand the signage guide. Have a valid drivers license and drive the market van to distribute signage. Be a hands on, solo lead during event load out (dependent on event type and attendance). Learn how to conduct a site tour and offer tours to prospective leads either at the farmers market or during scheduled shifts for tours. Assist the Recreation Leader with lead intake. Senior event leads are able to operate and oversee events solo, and work with the on site contact and vendor team to ensure a successful event from start to finish. Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age. Interest in community recreation, agriculture and/or event planning preferred. An independent worker who proactively looks for cleaning and organizing work to be done to maintain the appearance of the venue and improve customer experience. A combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills & abilities to perform the job will be considered. Willing to obtain Food Handler's Permit within 60 days of hire.

KNOWLEDGE OF: General rules, regulations, practices, and terminology of events and equipment used. Requirements of maintaining facilities and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Cleaning techniques and proper use of cleaning solutions and cleaning equipment. Basic reporting and record-keeping techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy, and respect. Passionate about volunteer opportunities, community building, & local agriculture. SKILL IN: Analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action. Reading, interpreting, applying, and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Communicating effectively both orally and in writing. General administrative tasks such as printing, updating spreadsheets, operating Point of Sale interfaces. ABILITY TO: Establish rapport and maintain cooperative working relationships with user populations. Ability to perform physical labor indoors and outdoors and in all types of weather (rain, heat, cold, etc.) while maintaining a positive attitude. Provide a can-do customer service attitude and ability to work with people who are under emotional pressure and in uncomfortable social circumstances. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather. Ability to organize and coordinate vendors, performers and customers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, elected officials, agencies and the public.
