The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Substation Engineer - GRANT.
The Full – Time, Exempt rate of $67,275 - $90,563. This position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU). Working at the Utilities Building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth, FL 33461.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Grid Deployment Office has selected the City of Lake Worth Beach for investment via the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program to enhance grid flexibility,
install more than 60 reclosers and other sectionalizing devices to autonomously rebalance the electrical system, integrate battery energy storage (BES) for community solar, new fiber optics connections, install advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and deploy a meter data management (MDM) system.
Positions covered under this GRIP Grant will expire / terminate in accordance with the grant’s timeline: this position will expire on the same date that the grant expires. The regular work schedule for these positions is Monday through Friday. All positions are in-person and / or on-site.

JOB SUMMARY:
This is responsible work in the construction, inspection, and maintenance of substations and network systems in the City of Lake Worth Beach.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Inspects and maintains substation equipment.
Performs activities related to operation and maintenance of relays, reclosers, regulators, circuit breakers, power transformers, underground network equipment repairs of transmission voltage cables.
Trains others, researches and studies equipment installation, operation, and maintenance manuals and books.
Completes document review and project management during maintenance or capital projects.
Available after hours for emergency and troubleshooting calls.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in substation engineering.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- Experience with substation design and maintenance.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools.
- Provides technical training and coaching as needed to other engineers or staff
- Write and design specifications for equipment in cooperation with management
- Attending meetings with management/and with contractors
- Creating/Maintaining project schedules in cooperation with the PMO
- Attends industry conferences, roundtables, and seminars as needed to ensure continued currency in best practices and industry trends
- This person must be able to work collaboratively with other members of the City of Lake Worth Beach staff, technology providers, consultants, and contractors
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team depending on the assignment or situation
- Strong analytical and critical thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities that can improve efficiency
- Ability to guide and mentor junior staff members in their development as valuable engineering staff members
- Working knowledge of the planning, design construction, or operation of utility scale electric substation systems.
- Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance best practices
- Coordinates and interfaces with other departments, construction, Transmission & Distribution (T&D), department planners, vendors, and contractors
- Learns, interprets, adheres to and enforces company policies, i.e., Safety, Line Extension, and the National Electric Safety Code

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of, and familiarity with, the practices, methods, equipment and tools used in power substation and underground network construction, operation, maintenance and repair, and a reasonable acquaintance with electrical principles. Ability to supervise others. Ability to maintain good public relations, initiative, good judgment in solving problems. Good knowledge of substation equipment and the City of Lake Worth Beach's electric system. Ability to perform emergency work under adverse conditions within safe physical limitations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds). May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
All full-time employees are considered critical in response to emergency situations and may be deemed essential as needed depending on the situation.
Employees in this position will be required to complete the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Certification Levels 100, 200, 700 and 800 within the first six months of employment. Certain positions may be required to attain additional ICS training as needed.
