Overview Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement – JobID: 813 Location: Camden City School District Date Posted: 5/18/2026 Closing Date: 05/27/2026 Position Type: Central Office / Director of Family Engagement and Community Partnerships Position Summary: The Executive Director of Family & Community Engagement is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and continuous improvement of districtwide systems that ensure families are engaged, informed, supported, and connected to schools. This role establishes a coherent system that integrates family engagement, community partnerships, and access to services into a unified approach that improves student outcomes, strengthens trust, and increases enrollment and retention. The position leads the development of a family-centered operating model, ensuring that every interaction with the district -- from enrollment to school engagement -- is clear, responsive, and welcoming. The Executive Director is accountable for ensuring that family and community engagement is systemic, measurable, and directly tied to student success, including attendance, engagement, and academic progress. Certification Requirements (NJDOE-Aligned) In accordance with: N.J.A.C. 6A:9B (as applicable) Required: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status A valid driver's license or state issued ID, valid insurance and registration Preferred / Additional Qualifications: Master's Degree in education, public administration, communications, social work, or related field New Jersey Supervisor, Principal, or School Administrator Certificate (preferred, not required) Significant experience in family and community engagement systems Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred Minimum: Seven (7) years of experience in family engagement, community outreach, public service, or related field Five (5) years of leadership experience managing teams and initiatives Demonstrated expertise in: Family engagement systems in urban school districts Community partnership development Public-facing service delivery models Strong knowledge of: Barriers to family engagement and access Enrollment, attendance, and student support systems Proven ability to: Build trust with diverse communities Lead large-scale initiatives Coordinate across multiple departments Core Responsibilities Districtwide Family Engagement Strategy (OWNER) Lead the development of a comprehensive, systemwide family engagement framework. Establish clear expectations for family engagement across all schools Shift from event-based engagement to system-based engagement Align engagement efforts to district priorities: Attendance Enrollment Student achievement Ensure consistency and accountability across schools Family Experience & Access Systems (OWNER) Ensure families can easily access district services and supports. Oversee development of a family-centered service model Ensure all family interactions are: Clear Responsive Respectful Eliminate barriers to access (language, scheduling, systems) Community Partnerships & External Engagement (OWNER) Build and sustain strategic partnerships that support students and families. Develop partnerships with: Community-based organizations Social service agencies Higher education and workforce partners Align partnerships to district goals and student needs Expand access to resources and services Alignment with Enrollment Strategy (OWNER) Ensure family engagement drives enrollment and retention. Coordinate with Enrollment Department Support outreach and recruitment efforts Ensure families understand school options and programs Improve conversion from interest to enrollment Attendance & Engagement Alignment (OWNER) Ensure family engagement supports student attendance and engagement. Collaborate with Attendance & Engagement team Develop strategies to engage families of chronically absent students Address barriers to attendance through family support School-Based Family Engagement Systems (OWNER) Ensure schools implement effective family engagement practices. Oversee implementation of school-based engagement systems Support principals in building strong family partnerships Ensure consistency across all schools Welcome Center & Family Access Oversight (OWNER) Ensure high-quality, centralized family services. Oversee Welcome Center operations Ensure efficient and welcoming registration and support processes Monitor family satisfaction and service quality Data, Accountability & Continuous Improvement (OWNER) Ensure family engagement efforts are measurable and effective. Service access Satisfaction Monitor trends and outcomes Use data to improve systems Communication & Messaging Alignment (OWNER) Ensure clear and consistent communication with families. Ensure information is accessible and understandable Lead and develop the Family & Community Engagement team. Supervise directors, managers, and staff Establish clear expectations and accountability Build team capacity and effectiveness Cross-Departmental Alignment (NES Integration) Collaborate with: Data (tracking and reporting) Enrollment (access and registration) Student Support (services and engagement) Ensure a unified family experience Other Duties Perform such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee in accordance with law and regulation. Workflow and Operating Expectations Monitor outreach, engagement, and service delivery Coordinate with departments Monthly: Review engagement data and trends Align work to School Stat priorities Ongoing: Community engagement and partnership development System refinement and improvement Accountability Measures The Executive Director is directly accountable for: Increased family engagement and participation Improved enrollment and retention Reduction in barriers to access Increased attendance through family engagement Family satisfaction with district services Strength and effectiveness of community partnerships Core Competencies Strategic leadership and systems design Family and community engagement expertise Relationship-building and trust development Communication and public engagement Organizational leadership and alignment Physical Demands : The following physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Moderate to high at times, noise level especially during school hours, assemblies or events. Frequent interruptions from calls, walk-ins and urgent requests. Possible exposure to cleaning agents, instructional materials, and equipment-related chemicals. Terms of Employment Twelve-month position. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment shall be in accordance with Board policy and applicable agreements. Evaluation Performance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, and district leadership procedures. Reports To: State District Superintendent (or Chief of Staff, depending on final cabinet design) Supervises : Director of Family Engagement (School-Based Systems) & Community Partnerships, Manager of Welcome Center & Family Access, Family engagement staff, outreach coordinators, and assigned personnel Work Year: Twelve (12) Months Classification: Non-affiliated Administrator (Senior Leadership) Minimum Starting Salary: $150,000.00 Maximum Starting Salary: $200,000.00 Residency Requirement Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
