Assistant Principal - Elementary (10.5 month Contract) Year-to-Year Position

Status: Exempt

Salary: Current Gadsden City Schools Salary Schedule

Qualifications:

• A valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate.
• A master's degree or a master's degree in progress with certification in the area of school administration.
• Three years successful experience as a classroom teacher at the appropriate level.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Reports To: Principal

Job Goal: To assist the principal in fulfilling the chief responsibility of promoting the educational well being of each student in the school.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Serves as the authority in charge in absence of the principal.
• Assists the principal in the areas of classroom observation and staff development.
• Shares leadership in the development of curriculum, local in-service training and the improvement of instruction.
• Serves as Civil Defense coordinator and formulates emergency plans for the school in all needed areas as assigned by the principal.
• Assumes the general responsibility for attendance procedure and identified tasks in the area of pupil personnel services.
• Coordinates and assists staff efforts in maintaining student discipline and deals with special problems as necessary.
• Works in cooperation with the guidance department for the social adjustment and welfare of students.
• Coordinates the accounting of equipment, lockers, and textbooks.
• Assists in the coordination of extracurricular activities.
• Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the principal
