Head Custodian

Hours Of Position: 7:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M., Monday – Friday

Qualifications: High school diploma or appropriate job experience. Custodial experience preferred. Ability to operate various types of custodial equipment.

Reports To: Coordinator of Buildings & Grounds

Goals: Plan, organize, maintain and provide a clean, safe, secure environment for all students, staff and stakeholders. Provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance of District owned buildings and grounds.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the building including by not limited to hallways, common areas, classrooms, cafeteria, and offices by performing or directing building custodial staff when necessary.

2. Maintain building grounds including but not limited to, snow removal, mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, mulching, and removal of landscaping by performing or directing custodial staff when necessary.

3. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services in assigned buildings.

4. Maintain or direct custodial staff to maintain the condition of building floors, including scrubbing and waxing as assigned.

5. Ensure building custodial staff is adequately trained to perform all functions of assigned building cleaning.

6. Complete or direct custodial staff to complete minor repairs as needed, and submit work orders for major repairs.

7. Complete or direct custodial staff to complete assigned preventative maintenance work orders.

8. Post and maintain records related to Integrated Pest Management under the supervision of the certified applicator.

9. Assist building staff or direct custodial staff to assist building staff before, during, and after student lunch period with respect to set-up and teardown.

10. Coordinate custodial coverage for events after school hours and over the weekend that may require overtime.

11. Maintain duty sheets for building custodial staff.

12. Perform all duties of regular building custodians as required.

13. Follow all required safety procedures for the safe operation of the building, equipment, cleaning materials and chemicals, etc.

14. This position is classified as essential. Essential staff members are required to report for work during school delays and closures for inclement weather or other emergencies.

15. Perform tasks as assigned by Coordinator of Buildings & Grounds, Director of Facilities and/or Building Principal.

Position Specifications

Physical Demands: Constant climbing, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pulling, pushing, lifting, grasping, hearing, talking and repetitive motions. Constantly alternating between sitting and standing Occasionally working above height of 10 feet Heavy to very heavy work requiring lifting of 60 pounds or more

Sensory Abilities: Visual and auditory acuity

Work Environment: Ability to work in outdoor environment where temperatures may be below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees Exposure to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as closeness to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, scaffolding or high places, high heat and chemicals Possible exposure to human waste and/or bodily fluids

Temperament: Ability to work as a member of a team Must be courteous, cooperative, and able to deal effectively with people Ability to work in various environments with frequent interruption Ability to make judgements and work under high levels of stress

Cognitive Ability: Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions Ability to work independently and organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks Ability to exercise good judgment

Specific Skills: Must possess ability to operate custodial and grounds equipment Must possess ability to use hazardous chemicals while properly following safety guidelines Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality with school matters
