Professional Billing Account Rep

Billing SpecialistCandidates must have a primary address located within the state of Michigan or willing to move to Michigan to be considered.This position is responsible for the billing functions for MyMichigan Health and MyMichigan Medical Group physician practices. This position is responsible for billing and follow up of insurance accounts. It includes verification of benefits and communication with the insurance companies. It requires review of the general appropriateness of account balances.ResponsibilitiesSubmits new electronic and paper insurance claims. Performs follow up on outstanding insurance balances including contacting the insurance company and utilization of the internet. Makes appropriate decisions regarding the status of an account utilizing carrier specific billing knowledge.Reviews outstanding physician insurance claims on a timely basis.Processes additional billings as required to obtain maximum payment on account.Responds to correspondence appropriate to area of responsibility.Communicates effectively with other department staff to resolve insurance billing issues.Maintains accuracy of insurance and patient account status.Understands payer billing requirements.Resolves credit balances.Performs other miscellaneous related duties.Certifications and LicensuresN/ARequired EducationHigh school diploma or GED is required. Experience in medical billing, medical office setting and medical terminology preferred. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software preferred.Other InformationGood written and oral communication skills.One year experience in a computerized medical setting.Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working ConditionsExposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
