Job Description:\n\nIndustrial Journeyman Piling Crane Operator Position Summary: Industrial Piling Crane Operators will operate one or more cranes to rig up equipment, move and install piling, falsework, support equipment and other materials from one location to another on heavy construction projects by means of safe crane and rigging practices. They will be responsible for the daily inspection and routine maintenance of equipment and will perform multiple types of lifting and positioning activities required to drive or drill different types of piles using various pieces of equipment in accordance with design drawings, specifications and supervisory instructions. They will also be responsible for overseeing the safety of those working near the crane, verifying loads charts and lift plans, performing equipment and rigging inspections, and possibly assisting with repairs. The position will be expected to assist other crafts in their down times which may include non-operating activities. Qualifications: · Must have current National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) credentials for Lattice Boom and Large and Small Telescopic Cranes. · Must have a current DOT physical. · Minimum of 5 years Industrial Construction Experience · Minimum of 3 years of Certified Crane Operator Experience · Minimum of 2 years Industrial Journeyman Piling Crane Operator Experience · Must be able to read and interpret prints, drawings and plans · Knowledge of crane operations, proper rig-up, rig-down and transport practices · Must have experience and knowledge of operating various types of cranes which may include but not be limited to crawler lattice boom and telescopic crawler and rough terrain cranes from Manitowoc, Kobelco, Link Belt, Mantis, Tadano, Grove, etc. ranging from 15-250 ton capacity. · Knowledge of crane supported piling equipment and the operation of such items as hydraulic power packs, fixed and swinging leads, various types of hammers and drills, hydraulic spotters, etc. · Must have basic mechanical knowledge of equipment to perform effective equipment inspection and diagnosis of problems. · Knowledge of Industrial Pile Driver hand tools, power tools and layout tools · Must have knowledge and experience in proper rigging practices and crane signaling · Must be reliable, accountable and consistent in performing administrative processes such as but not limited to equipment inspection and lift planning documentation. · Must be able to meet all physical demands and pre-employment conditions · Must have reliable transportation · Must be able to work up to 7 days per week and the hours necessary in order to achieve the goals of the company and the project Position Responsibilities: · Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and responsible manner · Must comply with all company safety and personnel policies · Performs all work tasks with the highest level of quality · Performs job tasks efficiently to ensure that production remains on schedule · Ensures that any unsafe acts or conditions are reported to your immediate supervisor immediately to avoid accident or injury · Must work efficiently, productively and safely without error and consistently meet the productions goals as set by the Foreman, Superintendent or Project Manager. · Examines blue prints, sketches, building plans and specifications to determine dimensions of structure and material required · Must have knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction and pile driving work. · Performs daily inspection of cranes and each tool or piece of equipment that they operate to ensure that the tools and equipment are safe and fit for duty; prior to utilizing the equipment · Inspects, examines, selects and gathers materials and tools · Inspects all designated work areas for hazards and obstructions · Inspects all cables, lines and rigging associated with the crane prior to use each day and throughout the day for signs of wear and advises the supervisor, riggers, and mechanics of any maintenance or replacement needs · Uses crane/rigging hand signals to operate, rig, load, transport and unload material and/or equipment · Demonstrates knowledge of how to disassemble, transport and assemble cranes and pile installation equipment · Will operate cranes to move and install piling materials and other support equipment. · Will determine weights of the loads to be lifted and will plan operations lifts and document them as necessary prior to performing the lift or work activity · Measures and marks driving depth lines on pile materials such as precast concrete, timber, H-pile or pipe · Uses pile driving hand tools such as hammers, levels, squares, plump bobs, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, hand and power saws, chain saws, drill motors, pry bars, electric and pneumatic tools • Must have working knowledge of various hammer types (diesel impact, hydraulic impact, air impact, vibratory). • Will set and change pump setting on diesel hammers, and know how fuel, lubricate and kill the hammer • Will set, clamp, run and unclamp vibratory hammers • Must have working knowledge of various types of drill systems and auger types required for specific soils • Must have working knowledge of both swinging and fixed lead systems and connections, spotters, and guide systems • Will operate pile gates on leads to correctly insert piles into driving position • Will spot piles on location and plum the leads to ensure that the butt of the pile will remain on location • Will determine the proper orientation of the leads to ensure that batter pile are driven on the correct angled batter · Will be proficient in assignment of auger cast pile installations, both high and low headroom. · Will plumb the leads and spot the auger on location to minimize walking of the pile · Will attach hydraulic hoses to both the drill motor or vibratory hammer and power pack · Will demonstrate the proper capabilities of starting and running the power pack and operating the drill or vibratory hammer by remote or manually by power pack controls · Will properly attach hose sections and rig up and operate the grout pump · Will be proficient in assignment of helical pile installations, both foundation pile and tie-backs. · Will be proficient in assignment of sheet pile installations and be knowledgeable about specialty tools such as sheet pile shackles, Stab Cat sheet pile threader, etc. · Has the ability to use torches, welding equipment, jacks, and pulleys as required · Assembles pile driving leads, connecting hoses, rigging material and equipment · Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies · Will layout, prepare, erect and assemble templates to accurately install piles in a variety of locations • Will operate various pieces of construction dirt equipment to move the earth in precision processes. • Will unload, place, move, clean, stack and load a variety of timber mats and laminate mats • Will follow signal directions from a signaler in equipment operations. · Verifies accuracy of piles with transit, tape measure, plumb bob, square and level. · Performs maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment · May tie rebar as well as place rebar cages · Will assist in cleaning spoils off of augers and transport the spoil materials to their designated staging area or load for haul off · Will pump grout to the desired specifications · Will perform flagging and signal person duties for a variety of haul and delivery trucks, equipment and cranes · Installs and sets waler systems, temporary bracing and template systems · Will install and remove sheet pile materials per specifications · Will dismantle, stack and sort temporary materials in a neat and orderly fashion · Must be able to handle and operate small tools (hammers, wrenches, shovels, rakes, come-a-longs, compactors, and various air, electric, and hydraulic power tools) and become proficient. · Will maintain housekeeping and an orderly site as work tasks are performed · Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. · May lead and will always participate in Jobsite Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings. · Follows direction from supervisor · Will provide assistance to other modified and/or waived by Mason Construction management at any time. Valued but not required skills and experience: · Former Mason Construction employee · Formal education/degree/certificate in construction, technical or trade school · National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification · National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification in Rigging – Signal Person, Rigging Level 1 or Rigging Level 2 · Basic computer competency · Supervisory experience Physical demands: · Employees must maintain personal health and physical conditioning appropriate for the safe performance of their assigned duties. · Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, stand, walk and work on rough terrain, work at heights, lift overhead as well as push and pull. · Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions · Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting. · Employees will also be required to sit for long periods of time for training related to safety, quality, leadership, work practice, and site specific issues. · Must be able to sit for extended periods of time behind a computer. · Will talk and listen to communicate. · Must be able to hear, understand and follow instructions correctly · Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push and pull objects, materials, controls and tools. · May be required to lift, carry and move up to 80 lbs. · Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Must maintain 3 point contact. · Must be able to clearly see and interact with surroundings · Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. · Must be able to use fingers in precise coordinated movements. · Must have good dexterity in arms, legs, hands, and feet. Weather will range from warm to extremely hot and usually humid. Occasional cool/cold days and rain. Dusty and muddy conditions may be frequent. At times work will be conducted on uneven terrain, at heights, and near or over water. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, vehicles, materials and tools. People in the surrounding areas will be standing, walking, sitting, signaling, working and talking. Bells, horns, whistles and alarms may sound to alert personnel.
