A Journeyman Electrician is a licensed professional who has completed a 4- to 5-year apprenticeship. They independently install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and control systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, ensuring all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations.

Core Responsibilities

• Installation & Assembly: Read blueprints and schematics to layout, assemble, and install electrical conduit, wiring, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
• Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use testing devices (e.g., multimeters, receptacle testers) to locate faults, repair equipment failures, and perform preventative maintenance.
• Safety & Compliance: Inspect and evaluate electrical systems to ensure they operate safely and efficiently, actively avoiding hazards and keeping up to date with code revisions.
• Leadership & Documentation: Maintain logs of repairs and modifications, and often manage or mentor lower-level apprentice electricians on the job site.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Licensure: Must hold an active state or municipal Journeyman Electrician License.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong command of electrical theory, wire sizing, and NFPA 70/NEC codes.
• Physical Abilities: Excellent color vision (for wire identification) and physical stamina to lift heavy components and work in tight, cramped spaces.
• Problem Solving: Critical thinking abilities to safely diagnose electrical issues and correct them in the field

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Grand Rapids,MI.
