Salary and Benefits This position is represented by the Police Management Association (PMA) and is covered by the negotiated terms and conditions of that Association's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The promotional selection process will include the following: Review of Minimum Qualifications Supervisory Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certificate. Bachelors Degree Valid California Driver's License Failure to complete the "Work History/Experience" and "Education" sections of your employment application will result in your application not being considered. The promotional process will also consist of the following exam components: Written Examination & PowerPoint Slide Creation – 35% – 09/15/2026 PowerPoint Presentation – 25% – 09/16/2026 and/or 09/17/2026 Oral Examination – 40% – 09/16/2026 and/or 09/17/2026 Instructions for the PowerPoint and the Written Exam will be provided to candidates during the Tuesday, 09/15/2026 examination. The Oral Interview and PowerPoint Presentation is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, 09/16/2026 and/or Thursday, 09/17/2026. Candidates who pass all 3 test parts will be placed on an eligibility list. The eligibility list established from this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies that arise during the life of the eligibility list. Eligibility List The candidates who successfully pass the selection process will earn placement on an Eligibility List. Mid-Management Level Responsibilities Performs mid-management level administrative police work for an assigned division. Plans, supervises and reviews the work of subordinate sergeants, police officers, detectives, technicians, and other clerical employees on an assigned watch. Supervises roll call inspections, maintenance of jail facilities, processing of prisoners, the checking of all equipment and communications, permit requests, crime prevention programs, recruitment, disaster planning, investigations and other programs associated with assigned division. Assists in handling difficult or unusual situations or complaints. Prepares and compiles reports related to assigned division. Monitors morale, personnel problems and complaints, and evaluates the performance of subordinates. Plans for and coordinates responses to emergency incidents on a City-wide basis and unusual occurrences including natural disasters, demonstrations, marches, rallies, dignitary visits, etc. Participates in the training of recruit police officers. Acts as Bureau Commander in Captain's absence. Performs other related work as assigned. Executive Officer Responsibilities Acts as Press Relations Officer for the Police Department: serves as the Departments spokesperson; coordinates requests from Department personnel for radio and television public service time; provides media training for Department personnel; responds to scenes of serious incidents to assist media; approves ride-a-long requests; prepares media releases; maintains close liaison with media representatives; maintains files of Department-related newspaper articles. Conducts sensitive internal investigations of alleged employee misconduct and trains other staff conducting lower level internal investigations. Acts as liaison and trouble shooter between various bureaus, divisions and sections within the Department. Conducts audits and inspections of various activities within the Department. Processes all applications from persons seeking licenses to carry a concealed weapon. Screens and handles communications from the public directed to the Chief of Police. Keeps the Chief of Police informed of current conditions within the Department including morale, problem areas and suggestions from subordinate personnel. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Five years of experience as a sworn Police officer, at least two (2) years of which as a Sergeant in the City of Beverly Hills. Supervisory Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certificate. Possession of an appropriate valid California driver's license.
