Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals at Marcy Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include conducting nursing assessments, monitoring patient health, administering medications and prescribed nursing procedures, developing and implementing individualized nursing care plans, and coordinating care with multidisciplinary treatment teams. The RN will also provide clinical guidance and supervision to direct care staff, maintain accurate medical records, implement infection control procedures, and help ensure that medications, supplies, and equipment meet patient-care requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct nursing assessments and obtain, record, and update individuals' health information and vital signs using standard instruments and procedures.
• Prepare individuals for medical examinations and treatments and provide assistance as needed.
• Administer medications and perform nursing procedures as prescribed.
• Prepare, implement, evaluate, and modify nursing care plans based on individual health needs.
• Provide clinical supervision and instruction to direct care staff regarding patient-care tasks.
• Delegate appropriate nursing activities, skills, and procedures to qualified direct care staff.
• Observe, monitor, and record individuals' symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity.
• Identify and report patient responses to medications and any changes in health status.
• Serve as the nursing representative on treatment teams, communicating nursing needs and coordinating care with other healthcare disciplines.
• Conduct clinical rounds to assess nursing care needs and evaluate the delivery of nursing services.
• Provide health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and other groups.
• Develop and support health improvement programs.
• Implement infection control protocols and procedures and provide related guidance and instruction to staff.
• Maintain and update medical charts, records, and other documentation in accordance with applicable agency, state, and federal requirements.
• Collect data and perform related activities to support medical research, as required.
• Monitor medication, solution, supply, and equipment inventories to ensure adequate availability for nursing care.
• Assist with preparing work schedules and provide relevant information to nurse supervisors.
• Prepare or contribute to required reports and performance evaluations for lower-level staff involved in nursing care activities.
• Follow established clinical procedures, patient safety requirements, confidentiality standards, and facility policies.

Work Schedule & Conditions

• Six (6) open positions.
• Available shifts:
• First Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM EST.
• Second Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM EST.
• Third Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM EST.
• Overtime is required as indicated in the assignment details.
• Candidates must be available to work on NYS holidays.
• No travel is required.
• Assignment duration is up to two years.
• The position involves providing nursing services within a correctional facility environment and requires adherence to facility policies and applicable patient-care procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Must meet the applicable licensing and credentialing requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
• Ability to conduct nursing assessments and accurately record vital signs and patient health information.
• Competence in medication administration and prescribed nursing procedures.
• Ability to prepare, implement, and modify nursing care plans.
• Strong clinical observation, assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate care with multidisciplinary treatment teams.
• Ability to provide appropriate clinical instruction and supervision to direct care staff.
• Knowledge of infection control practices and patient safety procedures.
• Ability to maintain accurate medical records and comply with applicable documentation requirements.
• Ability to manage nursing supplies, medications, and equipment appropriately.
• Willingness to work assigned shifts, overtime, and NYS holidays as required.
