Bereavement Volunteer

Grief doesn't end when hospice care ends.

Families often need support long after saying goodbye to someone they love. Bereavement Volunteers provide compassionate connection through phone calls, cards, and occasional visits, helping families know they are not alone during their journey through grief.

Sometimes healing begins with simply knowing someone remembers.

Volunteer Responsibilities

• Make friendly check-in phone calls
• Send handwritten cards
• Provide compassionate listening
• Offer encouragement without trying to "fix" grief
• Refer concerns to hospice staff when appropriate

Requirements

To ensure the safety of the patients and families we serve, all volunteers complete the following onboarding requirements:

• Background check
• Drug screening
• TB test
• Three personal references
• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (Don't have one yet? No problem! We'll help you complete the Fingerprint Clearance Card application during your volunteer training.)

Our team will guide you through each step of the onboarding process, and we're happy to answer any questions along the way.

Training

Volunteers receive training in grief support, communication, boundaries, confidentiality, and hospice philosophy before serving.

No counseling license or medical experience is required.

Your presence can remind someone that hope and healing are still possible, one conversation at a time.
