Great Hearts Texas (GHTX) is a nonprofit network of public charter schools serving approximately 14,500 students across its schools and Texas Online, with approximately $170 million in annual revenue. Great Hearts Texas offers a finance leader the opportunity to make a visible, lasting contribution to a distinctive educational organization. Building on recent organizational growth, the next CFO will strengthen the team, modernize systems, and create a finance function that enables our schools and leadership to achieve our mission.

Working closely with the Superintendent and Board, the CFO will influence decisions about resources, facilities, and long-term financial sustainability. For someone energized by building organizational capability and drawn to the classical educational mission, this role offers meaningful breadth of impact and the chance to see their work translate into stronger support for students and educators.

The CFO will partner closely with headmasters, earning trust, providing clear recommendations, and building shared accountability while respecting educators’ expertise and school-level leadership.

Financial Stewardship and Governance

Financial stewardship and regulatory reporting: Ensure accounting and financial reporting comply with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable requirements. Establish accountability for accurate and timely local, state, and federal financial submissions, including financial data and Texas Education Agency reporting. Oversee annual financial audits, auditor relationships, and management’s response to potential stakeholder concerns.

Grant and restricted-fund oversight : Ensure the team has the expertise, processes, and controls to manage state, federal, and other grants, including budgeting, disbursements, accounting, reporting, and compliance with funding restrictions. Partner with program and operating leaders on funding strategy and financial requirements.

Treasury and financial risk management : Set treasury and liquidity strategy and oversee cash management, banking, debt, and financing arrangements. Ensure effective controls that safeguard assets and support appropriate spending and procurement. Partner with operating leaders and advisors on insurance and financial risk management, and assess the financial implications of facilities, construction, and other major commitments.
