Assessment Components All candidates must complete the following assessment components during the selection process: Lead Fleet Technician Mechanical Scenarios Exercise (Written Assignment) After you submit your complete application packet, a scenarios exercise with instructions will be emailed to you. The exercise responses must be submitted via email as a Word document or PDF to HR Manager Gina Middleton (View email address on click.appcast.io) no later October 1, 2026. Minimum passing score: 80% In/Out Box Exercise (30 minutes) This exercise will be given on the same day as the candidate's scheduled panel interview. The purpose of this exercise is to assess the candidate's job-specific technical skills, problem-solving, and decision-making. The exercise will include scenario-based evaluations. Minimum passing score: 80% Panel Interview (45 minutes) Conducted by a panel consisting of command staff, technical supervisors, and/or subject matter experts. Candidates will be evaluated on their leadership ability, communication skills, and situational judgment. Scoring and Ranking Each component will be weighted as follows: Mechanical Scenarios: 30% In Box Exercise: 30% Panel Interview: 40% Candidates must achieve a minimum combined score of 80% to be further considered. Selection and Appointment Promotion recommendation will be made based on operational needs and final ranking. The Fire Chief (or designee) will interview the recommended candidate(s). The Fire Chief retains final approval authority. The final selected candidate will receive a written notification of promotion. Probationary Period The promoted Lead Fleet Technician will serve a probationary period of 12 months. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Position Summary The Lead Fleet Technician assists the Chief Mechanic in the repair and maintenance of automotive and mechanical firefighting apparatus and equipment. The Lead Fleet Technician also supervises Fleet Technicians. Immediate Supervisor The Lead Fleet Technician reports directly to the Chief Mechanic. Supervisory Responsibility The Lead Fleet Technician supervises Fleet Technicians. Primary Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Lead Fleet Technician and should not be considered an all-inclusive list. I. Supervisor Responsibilities Knowledge of the District's rules, polices, and procedures that pertain to the Maintenance Division specifically and the District generally, including but not limited to the rules, policies, and procedures contained in the District's Administrative Procedures Manual, and Standard Operating Guidelines. Attend and maintain supervisory training as directed. Create and maintain an on-call schedule, manage on-call activities with Fleet Technicians, and assist with answering questions. Manage time off requests and biweekly time sheets for Fleet Technicians. Provide direction, oversight, and support to Fleet Technicians including: Establishing expectations and monitoring performance Providing coaching and feedback Addressing performance and conduct concerns Supporting employee development Ensuring work is completed effectively, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and organizational standards. II. General Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain District fleet and external customer vehicles including fire suppression apparatus and support vehicles utilizing knowledge and expertise of automotive systems including hydraulics, brakes and air brakes, ABS, gas and diesel engines, advanced electrical and onboard computers, fuel delivery, transmissions, air systems, exhaust, axles and suspensions, fire pumps, foam systems, and aerial apparatus. Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mainline and portable water pumps, water valves, foam generating systems, and electrical generators in accordance with manufacturers' instructions or manuals. Assist with annual testing programs for fire pumps, aerial ladder equipment, and emissions for fire department fleet. Assist with performing and maintaining records for NFPA fire equipment tests and apparatus testing. Perform oil changes, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on emergency response vehicles and fleet vehicles. May perform welding and fabrication of steel and aluminum for body repairs and fire apparatus refurbishment. Prepare new fire apparatus/vehicles for service including developing order specifications. Maintain detailed records on emergency response vehicles in an automated system to include all maintenance and repair records, cost of service, hours of service, accident reports and safety checklist. Drive apparatus/vehicles to diagnose drivability concerns, test after repair, and deliver and pick up from third party vendors, when applicable. Respond to emergency scenes outside of the fleet maintenance facility in all weather conditions to perform fire apparatus/vehicle services as needed on an on-call basis. Train Firefighter Engineers in minor equipment repair, fluid adjustment, and vehicle maintenance performed at fire stations. Annual progression through Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification levels - Fire Apparatus (first), Ambulance (second). Must acquire a minimum of two (2) EVT and two (2) ASE certifications per year until total required certifications are obtained. The Lead Fleet Technician must maintain and keep current all required certifications after they are obtained. Attend meetings as well as local and out of state training and conferences as required. Monitor and maintain a clean and safe shop and work area. Diagnose and solve maintenance workflow problems. Develop and maintain positive, effective working relationships with District employees, volunteers, reserves, vendors, residents, other governmental entities, and the community. Maintain positive and constructive written and oral communication skills at all times. Work well in a progressive, team-oriented environment and the ability to work independently. Provide excellent service to the community. Have a positive attitude and be a self-starter. Promote a positive, professional image of the District at all times. Minimum Qualifications and Certification Requirements:

1. Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
2. Graduate of an accredited automotive trade school preferred.
3. Associate degree in automotive trades preferred.
4. Minimum of 5 years' documented work experience in vehicle and equipment repair and construction methods.
5. For internal promotion Must have 5 years' time-in-position as a Fleet Technician at South Adams County Fire Department by official promotion date.
6. Must possess and maintain (without interruption) a valid driver's license, and acceptable driving record.
7. Must possess personal hand tool set and appropriate mechanic's tool set sufficient to perform all required duties.
8. Ability to use and care for most hand tools and routine power tools.
9. Ability to diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel-powered internal combustion engines.
10. Ability to diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, mainline and portable water pumps, water valves, foam generating systems, and electrical generators in accordance with manufacturers' instructions or manuals.
11. Ability to contract with vendors for repairs and/or services as needed.
12. Knowledge of street names and locations within the District's service area.
13. Ability to read, comprehend, and deliver written instructions, correspondence, and memos.
14. Knowledge of basic computer programs and an adequate level of computer skills.
