Wellness Program Lead for the College of Veterinary Medicine

Overview The Wellness Program Lead for the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) leads wellness programming to support CVM students' wellbeing and foster a culture of wellness within their academic environment. This is a twelve month fiscal year position working 40 hours per week with one month off during the summer, coordinated with the other embedded clinician. As an embedded member of Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS), this position is dedicated exclusively to serving the CVM community. The Program Lead will act as the primary mental health expert for the college, collaborating closely with CVM faculty and staff to address the evolving mental health needs of students. This role includes providing direct clinical services. Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities: The Wellness Program Lead for the CVM reports to the Executive Director of CAPS, with a secondary reporting line to the Dean for CVM. This position provides leadership for the CAPS Embedded Team for the CVM but does not hold formal supervisory or administrative authority over the other CVM Wellness team member. Both team members report directly to the Executive Director of CAPS. Responsibilities Program coordination (50%): Develop, lead and manage student-centered wellness and prevention programing for the CVM. Engage in strategic planning and assessment activities related to student wellbeing and outcomes of wellness programming. Assist in planning student orientation activities centered upon student wellbeing. Collaborate with the CVM Student Services for student wellness activities. Lead the CVM Wellness Committee. Provide input in the development and implementation of curriculum with attention to student wellbeing. Operationally lead the CAPS Embedded Team for the CVM. May supervise student volunteers and/or hourly student employees working with wellness programs. Clinical services (30%): Provide individual and group counseling for students in the college (both face-to-face and teletherapy), clinical consultation (triage appointment), intake, assessment, and crisis interventions. Conduct drop-in hours for CVM students. Prepare for sessions and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical services. Other professional responsibilities (20%): May provide instructional support in the professional skills courses in the CVM degree curriculum. Provide consultation to CVM faculty and staff regarding student mental health concerns. Participate in administrative and professional activities for CAPS staff (e.g., weekly staff meeting). Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: The position will be hired as either a Clinician I, Clinician II, or Psychologist based on the following qualifications and duties assigned: For hire as a Clinician I : A master's degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and a provisional mental health license in Utah (e.g., CSW, ACMHC, AMFT), and eligible for independent licensure in Utah as a mental health provider within 2 years of hire date. If hired as a Clinician I, the individual must have secured a license for independent practice within 2 years of hire. (If hired at the Clinician I level, supervision will be provided by CAPS clinicians.) For hire as a Clinician II : A master's degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and a current Utah licensure (or ability to secure licensure by hire date) that allows independent practice (e.g., LCSW, CMHC, LMFT) OR a doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program and eligible for licensure in Utah as a Psychologist within 2 years of hire date For hire as a Psychologist : A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program and current Utah licensure as a Psychologist (or ability to secure license by hire date). For all levels: Clinical experience working with young adults (ages 18-25). Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral degree in psychology. Independent clinical license in the State of Utah and eligibility to provide clinical supervision to unlicensed staff. Experience working in a university or other higher education setting. Demonstrated understanding of the unique mental health needs of veterinarians and veterinary students. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to exercise sound clinical and professional judgment and to demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Generalist knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy). Effective time management skills and ability to work independently as collaboratively within a team. Proficiency with basic computer applications and clinical documentation systems. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, networking, community-building, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making skills, with a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor settings. Indoor work typically occurs in office spaces, event spaces, classrooms, or public/community locations, which are generally protected from weather conditions but may involve temperature variations. While indoors, incumbents may sit for extended periods and perform repetitive hand movements (e.g., typing, data entry). This position also includes outreach and programming conducted outdoors and in community‑based locations, which may include agricultural settings such as farms or ranches where students or community partners are present. Outdoor work may involve exposure to changing weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, or sun, and may require walking on uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, and transporting materials or supplies.
