Since its founding in 2004, the schools strive to meet the need of public education as well as the demand for alternative institutions committed to post-secondary preparation. Each school operates on the principles of providing a valuable, well-rounded academic experience through the support of a diverse and dedicated group of qualified educators and administrative staff, an extended school year and rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Mission City University Schools will prepare its students with the necessary skills to be twenty-first century scholars and citizens. As college preparatory schools operating as Centers of Excellence for Student Development, the schools will provide academically rigorous and socially enriching educational opportunities for its scholars. Upon graduation, these scholars will be better prepared to enter secondary education and college as intellectually sophisticated citizens with vigor for learning. Position Goal The Dean of Scholars will provide support for scholars and respective stakeholders through remediation programs and integration services that enhance student achievement and progress, while ensuring a disciplined environment conducive to the educational growth of all scholars. Responsibilities Supervise assigned professional, administrative and support staff members, including establishing staffing standards, organizing, selecting or recommending selection, assigning and evaluating work. Prepare periodic employee performance evaluations. Be responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the attendance and tardy policies and work closely with the Campus President, Secretary, Professors and Parents/Guardians to address attendance and truancy. Develop and implement scholar/parent training and development programs and opportunities, to include Orientation. Oversee/Coordinate the Parent Advisory Council—with particular emphasis on all Schools. Be responsible for the fair and equal enforcement of student discipline. Be responsible for the development, implementation, and fair and equal enforcement of school rules and regulations—with particular emphasis on student dress code and overall conduct. Establish and maintain plans and actions to accomplish school goals; establishes school calendars and schedules. Coordinate all emergency drills (i.e. fire, tornado, etc.) and crisis intervention with Campus President and Building Engineer. Develop and implement extracurricular activities, special programs and events. Coordinate and expedite college visits for Freshman and Sophomore scholars. Receive and respond to inquiries, concerns and complaints from teachers, students and parents; work to resolve administrative, instructional and behavioral problems. Perform various administrative/office duties as necessary, including preparing reports and correspondence, compiling information and data for reports, copying and filing documents, receiving and responding to emails in a timely manner. Participate in scholar and staff recruitment. Attend classes, training, workshops and conferences as appropriate or necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills and/or required certifications. Write proposals, research and obtain grant/outside funding opportunities, as well as develop community partnerships and collaborations. Perform other related duties as assigned or directed in order to support the overall success of all schools on one campus. Qualifications The selected individual must have a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and/or Supervision from an accredited college or university. Requires 3 to 5 years of successful teaching experience with some demonstrated leadership experience. Applicant must have proven recent experience working with at-risk student population. Be appropriately trained and able to handle emergency situations that occur with staff, parents, and students. Must be able to work with a diverse constituent base and have the ability to work with parents. Be familiar with providing college preparatory curriculum, programs and services. City University Schools complies with all Tennessee policies regarding minimum requirements that administrators be certified in the applicable area or demonstrate progress toward obtaining proper certification. The selected candidate must submit a recent portfolio of parent and student communications and administrative directives in order to demonstrate a firm understanding of the key elements necessary for educational leadership in today’s school environments. All writing and communication must be of free thought and intellect, as well as, absent of plagiarism. Any (past or current) occurrence of plagiarism will serve as grounds for automatic removal from the application pool for an educational post with City University Schools. Supervises School Secretaries and SMS Coordinator, as well as, evaluates faculty Reports to Campus President of City University Schools Terms of Employment This is a year-round 12 month position. All contractual information shall be outlined in the contract between the Campus President and the City University Schools Board of Trustees. The Dean will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy. Salary and Benefits Min-Max starting salary: $62,500 to $74,500 – with competitive incentive increases. Health and dental insurance for full-time employees – a portion of the cost of these programs will be covered by the employer; Group term life and long-term disability insurance is also available; Retirement – any staff participation requirements of the state retirement system will be followed.
