Supply Chain Director Full Time Management Springfield, MO, US 2 days ago Requisition ID: 1036 Position Summary The Supply Chain Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Genie Reconditioning’s end-to-end supply chain function, including purchasing, material planning, scheduling, inventory management, warehousing, tool crib operations, shipping and receiving, vendor management, and distribution of finished equipment. The position develops and executes supply chain strategies that support production requirements, customer commitments, cost objectives, inventory performance, and organizational growth. The Supply Chain Director establishes performance expectations, operating controls, budgets, policies, and procedures while ensuring critical materials, components, tooling, and services are available when needed to support reconditioning operations. This role uses forecasting, operational data, supplier performance, production schedules, inventory trends, and key performance indicators to anticipate requirements, identify constraints, improve material flow, and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain. The Supply Chain Director negotiates with suppliers, develops strategic vendor relationships, manages supply risk, and works closely with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and executive leadership to ensure supply chain activities align with company priorities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Direct the overall Supply Chain function, including purchasing, procurement, material planning, scheduling, inventory control, warehousing, shipping and receiving, tool crib operations, and finished-goods distribution. Develop and execute supply chain strategies aligned with production plans, financial objectives, customer requirements, and organizational growth. Translate production forecasts and sales requirements into material, inventory, supplier, staffing, and logistics plans. Establish and monitor key supply chain performance metrics, including inventory accuracy, material availability, supplier performance, purchase-price variance, schedule attainment, shortages, freight, and inventory turns. Lead inventory and working-capital strategies that ensure material availability while controlling inventory levels and excess stock. Develop sourcing strategies and lead the evaluation, selection, negotiation, and performance management of suppliers. Identify and mitigate supplier, material, logistics, capacity, and other supply chain risks that could affect production or customer commitments. Direct production scheduling, material planning, and material-flow activities to support production targets and reduce shortages or constraints. Oversee warehouse, shipping, receiving, material staging, tool crib, and finished-equipment distribution activities. Develop and manage the Supply Chain department budget, spending controls, and cost-reduction initiatives. Partner with Operations, Finance, Engineering, Quality, and Sales to align supply chain decisions with production, cost, quality, customer, and business requirements. Establish Supply Chain policies, procedures, internal controls, systems, and continuous-improvement priorities. Lead, develop, and hold accountable Supply Chain managers, supervisors, group leads, professional staff, and hourly employees, including staffing, performance, training, and succession planning. Provide executive leadership with regular supply chain performance reporting, forecasts, risks, constraints, and recommendations. Leadership and Decision-Making Authority The Supply Chain Director operates with significant independence within established company policies, financial controls, and executive direction. The position: Establishes functional priorities, objectives, processes, policies, and performance expectations for the Supply Chain organization. Makes staffing recommendations and participates in hiring, compensation, performance-management, and succession decisions. Leads and develops managers, supervisors, professional staff, group leads, and hourly employees. Develops and manages departmental budgets and spending within approved financial authority. Approves routine purchasing and supplier decisions within delegated authority. Negotiates commercial terms, pricing, contracts, and supplier agreements within established authority. Determines training and development priorities for the Supply Chain function. Escalates significant contractual, financial, legal, supplier-risk, or non-standard business matters to executive leadership when appropriate. Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, operations management, logistics, engineering, or a related field. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible management experience in supply chain, purchasing, materials management, logistics, manufacturing operations, or a closely related function. Demonstrated experience managing a significant supply chain function and leading managers, supervisors, professional staff, and hourly employees. Strong knowledge of purchasing, inventory management, production planning, forecasting, warehousing, logistics, supplier management, and material flow. Experience developing and monitoring departmental budgets and operational KPIs. Demonstrated supplier negotiation and vendor-management experience. Strong analytical ability and experience using operational data to support business decisions. Preferred Supply chain leadership experience within manufacturing, heavy equipment, automotive, remanufacturing, industrial equipment, or a related environment. Experience supporting high-mix production or reconditioning operations. Experience with ERP, MRP, inventory-control, purchasing, production-scheduling, or manufacturing-execution systems. Professional certification such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, CPSM, or equivalent. Experience implementing Lean, continuous-improvement, material-flow, or inventory-optimization initiatives. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep knowledge of supply chain operations with solid understanding of the broader manufacturing and business environment. Ability to develop strategy while maintaining visibility into daily operational execution. Strong financial and business judgment. Ability to analyze large amounts of operational information and translate findings into practical actions. Strong negotiation and supplier-management skills. Ability to anticipate supply constraints and develop effective contingency plans. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to lead multiple functional areas through subordinate managers and supervisors. Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, employees, suppliers, customers, and cross-functional partners. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability. Ability to establish accountability and drive measurable improvement. Ability to manage competing production, inventory, cost, and customer priorities. Transportation and logistics partners Physical and Work Environment Requirements The position operates in both office and manufacturing environments. The employee must be able to regularly move throughout warehouse, production, shipping, receiving, and material-storage areas to observe operations, evaluate conditions, and support employees. The position may occasionally require standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting or moving materials consistent with normal manufacturing and warehouse activities. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when entering designated production or operational areas.
