Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRSO)

Position Overview Albuquerque Raymond G. Murphy VA Healthcare System in Albuquerque, NM is hiring a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to serve as our Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO). The MRSO will be responsible for training, developing, and directing the MR safety program within the Diagnostic Imaging service department. Responsibilities Coordinate MR safety committee meetings Evaluate hospital equipment to ensure MR safe operation Oversee employee and patient MR screening programs Coordinate training of hospital staff and maintain educational documentation Qualifications United States citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when no qualified citizens are available (VA policy) Proficient in spoken and written English Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology – Radiography (ARRT) (R) Advanced ARRT certification for assignments involving CT, MRI, or mammography MRSO certification highly desirable Grandfathering provision eligibility for existing VA employees meeting criteria Grade: GS-10; at least one year equivalent experience of GS-9 level Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of MR safety requirements for physical space and access control Development and enforcement of written safety procedures, work instructions, emergency procedures, and operating instructions Understanding of hazards posed by magnetic fields to implants, medical devices, and foreign bodies, and ability to develop mitigation measures Ability to train medical, technical, nursing, and ancillary staff in MR safety procedures Physical Requirements Heavy lifting (45 lbs+) and heavy carrying (45 lbs+) Ability to perform straight pulling (1 hour) and pushing (1–2 hours) Reaching above shoulder; use of both hands Walking up to 3 hours; repeated bending (1 hour); rapid mental and muscular coordination Benefits Competitive salary, regular increases, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, and federal 401(k) with up to 5% contribution.
