Tree Service Technician

Location: Butte, Montana

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Crew Leader / Owner

Position Summary

Over the Top Tree Service is seeking a dependable, safety-minded Tree Service Technician to join our growing team in Butte, Montana. The successful candidate will assist with tree trimming, tree removal, hazardous tree mitigation, storm cleanup, stump grinding, brush removal, and general property cleanup.

This is a physically demanding outdoor position that requires working safely around heavy equipment, power tools, ropes, chainsaws, falling limbs, and other job-site hazards. Previous tree-care experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. We are willing to train motivated employees who demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to safety.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with residential, commercial, municipal, and government tree-care projects.

• Assist with tree trimming, pruning, removals, and hazardous tree mitigation.

• Safely handle and process branches, logs, brush, and other tree debris.

• Assist with rope-and-rigging operations and lowering of tree sections.

• Operate and assist with equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, chainsaws, loaders, and other tree-care equipment as trained.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

• Load, secure, transport, and unload tree debris and equipment.

• Assist with stump grinding, backfilling, grading, and restoration of work areas.

• Follow all company safety procedures and instructions from the crew leader.

• Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.

• Protect structures, landscaping, vehicles, utilities, and other property during operations.

• Provide professional and courteous service to customers and property owners.

• Perform other duties associated with professional tree care as assigned.

Qualifications

• Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying Montana weather conditions.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.

• Ability to safely lift, carry, drag, and maneuver heavy materials.

• Willingness to work at heights and around heavy equipment.

• Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a crew.

• Commitment to job-site safety and proper use of personal protective equipment.

• Valid driver’s license preferred.

• Previous tree-care, landscaping, construction, logging, forestry, or equipment-operation experience is preferred.

• Chainsaw, climbing, rigging, CDL, or equipment experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be capable of:

• Standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working on uneven terrain.

• Lifting and carrying heavy equipment and tree material.

• Working from elevated positions when properly trained.

• Working around chainsaws, chippers, ropes, rigging systems, and heavy machinery.

• Performing physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.

Training may include chainsaw operation, climbing techniques, aerial rescue, rigging, equipment operation, hazard recognition, and advanced tree-care practices.
