Part Time Cake Decorator

This is a part‑time position. The primary responsibility is to take excellent care of our customers by satisfying each customer’s needs and exceeding their expectations. This requires a defined level of product knowledge, food preparation skills, sales ability, customer relations skills, and cooperation with fellow associates to create an incredible place to work and shop. Responsibilities include preparing, processing, packaging, and stocking products according to Fresh Foods Standards; providing customer service; cleaning work areas; unloading stock and reloading salvage products according to Fresh Foods Standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Initiate interaction with customers on the sales floor and at the counter. Ask customers questions regarding their shopping needs. Provide customers information needed to meet their taste and meal requirements. Follow through on customer requests. Demonstrate the highest level of customer service and never be rude to a customer under any circumstance. If you cannot say "yes" to a customer’s request, bring the issue to department management or the manager‑on‑duty and never turn down business. Make eye contact with and smile at every customer. Speak to customers in a genuine, clear, and enthusiastic manner and ask if they found everything they were looking for. Reflect an appropriate business image to customers and visitors; maintain a clean, neat, and tasteful appearance in line with company policy. Be reliable and punctual by reporting for work on time and as scheduled. Notify your supervisor or manager‑on‑duty two hours in advance if you will be late or absent.

PRODUCT PREPARATION AND PACKAGING

Neatly decorate cakes and other bakery items and create party trays according to standards and customers’ specifications. Obtain or prepare food items requested by customers at the counter. Bake, fry, broil, or roast poultry, pork, beef, or other meats according to standards. Prepare, weight, price, date, wrap, and package products according to standards. Operate all necessary equipment to effectively prepare and portion products according to standards and customer specification.

COMMUNICATION AND SALES

Communicate in English with customers and fellow associates regarding requests, current promotions, marketing campaigns, and essential products. When a customer asks where a product is located, take the customer to the product. Answer telephones politely and professionally. Sell only fresh products and follow Harris Teeter standards regarding product preparation, merchandising, rotation, dating, and markdown guidelines. Comply with the Food Safety policy (RO‑37).

STOCKING AND SHELVING

Ensure that all appropriate Fresh Foods products are properly refrigerated. Check temperatures of product, cases, and coolers according to standards. Stock and block product according to standards and in a manner that maximizes sales and minimizes shrink. Work backstock on a regular basis. Process close‑dated and damaged product according to standards. Check merchandising displays regularly to ensure the availability of advertised items and/or samples. Prepare, display, and offer daily samples according to standards. Inform management of advertised item shortages, incorrect prices, missing signs, departmental changes, or other situations as appropriate.

UNLOADING AND CLEANING

Unload product from truck and place in coolers according to Fresh Foods Receiving and Rotation standards; load salvage on truck as required. Remove products from storage. Keep our stores clean by complying with Health Department and Department of Agriculture standards, regulations, and requirements. Clean and sanitize prep room and coolers as appropriate. Keep counters, food contact surfaces, refrigerator glass, and windows clean; sweep and mop floors; empty garbage; keep displays merchandised and neat.

SAFETY AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Follow all safety regulations and help keep the store free of dangerous situations. Immediately inform store management of all accidents and/or safety hazards. Record accidents and safety hazards in the designated log. Ensure that chemicals are handled, mixed, and applied according to directions and in compliance with the Hazard Communication Program Manual. The role requires regular standing, walking, lifting up to 30 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds), and other physical tasks described above. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment includes moderate to loud noise levels and exposure to hot, cool, and extreme cold temperatures, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English; ability to write simple correspondence in English; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and associates who only speak English.

MATH & REASONING

Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and use American money and weight measurements. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS

Complete company training including new hire orientation, food sanitation, customer service network, safety, food safety, and product knowledge.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
