Phlebotomist II Location: Vancouver, WA - Salmon Creek Hospital PSC Float Locations: Portland, Beaverton, and Gresham, OR Duration: 3+ months Shift: 1st Shift | Monday-Friday | Hours may vary between 6:00 AM-6:00 PM based on staffing needs Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to support patient service centers throughout the Portland metropolitan area. This is a float position, requiring the ability to work at multiple PSC locations based on staffing needs. The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture skills, including experience drawing blood from pediatric and geriatric patients, as well as experience with specimen processing and patient registration. Key Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles. Perform blood draws on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Properly identify patients and verify laboratory requisitions/orders. Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to testing requirements. Process and prepare specimens for transportation while maintaining specimen integrity. Register patients and update patient information accurately. Explain the blood-drawing and specimen-collection process to patients in a clear and courteous manner. Follow established procedures for specimen storage and handling. Ensure all requisitions, labels, and specimens are accurately matched. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements. Assist with workflow recommendations, troubleshooting, and other assigned duties. Answer telephone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries. Complete required department training. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 6 months of recent venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, or clinical setting. Valid Washington State Phlebotomy License. Strong patient-service and communication skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Reliable transportation, as this is a float position requiring travel between PSC locations. Must be comfortable working with patients across different age groups. Preferred Qualifications Pediatric phlebotomy experience strongly preferred. Experience performing geriatric blood draws. Specimen processing experience. Previous experience working in a Patient Service Center or laboratory setting. Experience registering patients and updating patient information. Additional Requirements Color vision screening is required. Flu and COVID vaccination are not required but are recommended. Candidates must be flexible to work at different PSC locations throughout the Portland metro area. Pediatric drawing experience is particularly important because the Portland locations may see a higher volume of pediatric patients. Work Environment This is an onsite, full-time float position supporting multiple Patient Service Center locations in the Vancouver/Portland metropolitan area.
