Phlebotomist

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains the venipuncture process and other specimen collections (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understands all physician orders, matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Checks all test requisitions and scripts to ensure 100% correctness. Packages specimens for transport, stores samples at required temperatures, places samples in appropriate containers, accurately labels, and follows procedures to maintain specimen integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations, attends annual department trainings, and answers telephone calls and lab result inquiries. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
