The University of Washington Autism Center (UWAC) has an outstanding opportunity for a Behavior Technician (BT) to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Behavior Technician is responsible for delivering direct, individualized intervention services to young children with Autism Spectru m Disorder (ASD) in a clinic-based setting. This role supports the implementation of evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment plans, contributes to skill development and behavior improvement, and plays a vital role in supporting children and families while maintaining UW Autism Center clinical standards and practices.

This position is located at the UW Tacoma Campus and is an in-person, clinic-based role. Employees must be available during ABA Day Program hours: Tuesday-Friday, 8:30-11:30 AM and 1:30-4:30 PM . Schedules may be up to 40 hours per week (Tuesday-Friday, 8:00 AM-6:30 PM) and are negotiable based on clinic needs and applicant availability. Hours may change based on client need.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Direct Intervention - 60%

• Work one-on-one with children ages 12 months to 6 years and their parents

• Implement intervention protocols developed by a BCBA to increase skills and reduce problem behaviors

• Provide responsible, positive, and sensitive care during therapy

• Apply ABA principles and tailor intervention procedures to individual needs and interests

• Assist with curriculum-based assessments as needed

• Work under close supervision of a master's-level BCBA

Organize and Maintain Therapy Space - 20%

• Maintain therapy spaces that are organized, clean, and child-proof

• Follow sanitizing, cleaning, and COVID-19 precaution protocols

• Set up therapeutic materials before sessions and clean up after sessions

• Comply with snack, diapering, and toileting procedures to ensure hygiene and safety

Develop Therapy Materials - 10%

• Create and prepare picture cards, books, and visual supports

• Develop motivation charts, token boards, PECS icons, visual schedules, and play materials

Manage Records and Data Collection - 10%

• Collect and accurately record intervention data during therapy sessions

• Maintain computer and paper records

• Graph data and complete treatment notes in accordance with clinic standards

This position does not manage employees.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of college-level coursework in a relevant academic field and two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant, or equivalent education and/or experience

Additional Qualifications

• Ability and willingness to interact with young children in a spontaneous and creative manner

• Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with parents, children, and professionals

• Experience working with toddler-, preschool-, or elementary-aged children

• Ability to provide physical care, including moving young children (12-48 months), diapering, and toilet training as needed

P referred Qualifications

• Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) credential through the Washington State Department of Health

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, human/child development, or a related field

• Training or experience with early intensive behavioral intervention, applied behavior analysis, early intervention, developmental psychology, or special education

• Experience working directly with children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder

• Willingness to commit to the position for at least 12 months to support continuity of care

W orking Conditions

• Work is performed in a clinical setting with young children

• Position requires frequent bending, lifting, standing, and floor-based activities

• Routine exposure to bodily fluids during diapering and toileting activities

• Adherence to infection control, sanitization, and public-health safety procedures

TheUW Autism Center (UWAC) is part of the University of Washington's Center on Human Development and Disability and includes faculty and staff from the School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education. UWAC is committed to supporting individuals and families affected by autism through exceptional clinical services, innovative research, and high-quality professional training.
