About the Role

The Site Manager is the overall on-site lead during the delivery phase of a utility-scale BESS project, responsible for site safety, schedule, quality, interface coordination and final delivery outcomes. This role does not directly perform equipment or system commissioning. Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end on-site delivery of utility-scale BESS projects, covering equipment receipt, installation, cold commissioning, hot commissioning, grid connection, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and final handover.
  • Serve as CATL’s primary HSE representative on site, managing the safety performance of CATL personnel and subcontractors, and coordinating risk assessments, work approvals and site inspections.
  • Develop and track the overall site delivery schedule and key milestones, coordinating site personnel, technical experts, subcontractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Manage site integration and interfaces among the EPC, PCS, EMS, SCADA, substation and other relevant parties, ensuring clear responsibilities and prerequisites.
  • Verify installation quality and commissioning readiness, organize readiness reviews and release gates for cold commissioning, hot commissioning, energization and grid connection.
  • Act as the primary on-site interface with the customer, align external communications, manage customer expectations and coordinate testing, acceptance and issue resolution.
  • Manage site issues, risks and changes through issue registers and action plans, and escalate major risks to internal management when required.
  • Ensure the completeness and traceability of acceptance documents, test records, issue-closure evidence and handover documentation.
  • Support commissioning-related pre-sales activities, including tender document review, commissioning scope and responsibility assessment, technical bid responses, risk identification and participation in customer clarification meetings.
  • Coordinate customer training, punch-list closure, project handover and lessons-learned reviews to ensure on-time project acceptance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Automation, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in power, renewable energy, BESS or large-scale engineering projects, including at least two years in site management or project delivery management.
  • Familiarity with the full delivery lifecycle of utility-scale BESS projects, from equipment receipt and installation through commissioning, grid connection, acceptance and handover.
  • General knowledge of BESS, BMS, PCS, EMS, SCADA, fire suppression, thermal management, substations and auxiliary systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line diagrams, secondary schematics, communication topology diagrams, commissioning procedures and SAT documentation.
  • Strong capabilities in schedule management, risk identification, issue resolution, on-site decision-making and cross-functional coordination.
  • Ability to review tender documents and technical specifications and support commissioning plans, technical bid responses and customer clarifications.
  • Strong customer communication skills and the ability to coordinate EPCs, equipment suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in English for business meetings, technical communication and written reporting; fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
  • Willingness to undertake long-term overseas assignments and work at project sites across Europe and other regions.

Required Skills

  • Full-cycle delivery experience in utility-scale BESS, solar, wind or substation projects;
  • Experience as a Site Manager or on BESS projects of 100 MWh or above;
  • Familiarity with European HSE, grid-connection and site compliance requirements;
  • PMP, NEBOSH, IOSH or relevant electrical qualifications;
