Weld Manager

In this role, you will provide the plant with welding and technical support, such as training, welding process troubleshooting, and welding process improvement. The Weld Manager will have oversight of the weld school and welding technicians. This individual will be able to apply working knowledge of industry welding codes and specifications. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Welding Engineering for the Business Unit.Location: Newton, IAWhat You'll Do: Supervise weld techniciansSupervise the weld school and participantsEnhance and develop the plant welding program with direction from the Senior Manager of Welding EngineeringTroubleshoot routine welding techniques and equipment issuesEvaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and qualityProvide technical assistance on welding during customer and third-party auditsParticipate in internal welding auditsTrain, instruct, and qualify welders of various skill levelsCertify welders and welding operators as neededComplete welding equipment verificationsCreate welding performance reportsMaintain welding school equipment in good working conditionDocument test results and maintain testing and training recordsTroubleshoot FCAW and SAW equipment issues and weld defect issuesRead, interpret, and serve as a subject matter expert on welding proceduresAssist with the management of the New Welder Mentor ProgramMay assist in production welding, as neededInvestigate the root cause of weld defects and develop solutions to avoid themAll other duties as assigned or neededWhat You'll Need: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or capable of achieving within one yearAdvanced knowledge of FCAW, SAW, and GMAW welding processes with hands on proficiencyWorking knowledge of the AWS D1.1 procedure and performance qualificationProficient using various visual weld inspection toolsModerate written and oral communication skillsModerate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Capable trainer in classroom and production (hands-on) environmentsExceptional coaching and influencing skills5 years of experience in heavy fabrication without formal education or 2 years of experience with an associate’s degree in welding or bachelor’s degree in welding engineeringA high degree of dependability, maturity, and strong leadership characteristics, as demonstrated through previous professional work experienceRegular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team toward achieving a common goalWorking Conditions:Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production and non-production areas and plant grounds.This position may require work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidaysSafety Activities:Be aware of and observe all safety practices.Know and follow all safety rules and procedures.Participate in safety committees and initiatives as assigned.As an important member of the team, you will be responsible for:Activating the potential of our people,Caring for our customers,Optimizing operations andIntegrating sustainability into our daily practices as well as our long-term strategy and promote a results-driven culture that is aligned with long term value creation.Safety Sensitive: YesBenefits:Health & Pharmacy Plans Dental & Vision PlansPaid time off11 paid holidaysCritical Illness InsuranceFlexible Spending AccountsCompany Paid Life & AD&D InsuranceVoluntary Life & AD&D Insurance401(k) W/Company MatchShort-Term Disability InsuranceVoluntary Long-Term Disability InsuranceEmployee Assistance ProgramTOW158Job SummaryRequisition Number: WELDM014198Job Category: WeldingSchedule: Full-Time
