position. The tour of duty is 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Tuesday–Saturday; Sunday and Monday are days off. The position is located on the Main Campus and is considered an essential position. Applicants must demonstrate employment eligibility per the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This role is subject to the AFSCME unity agreement. Operational Oversight: Manage daily collection, transportation, and processing of solid waste and recyclables. Ensure safe, efficient, and timely service delivery. Program Development: Design and implement waste reduction and recycling initiatives, including composting and sustainability programs. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including proper handling of hazardous and special waste. Financial Management: Assist with preparation and monitoring of budgets, control costs, and track program expenditures. Contract Administration: Oversee service contracts with vendors and contractors, including performance monitoring and compliance. Staff Leadership: Supervise and train full‑time and student personnel involved in collection, facility operations, and recycling education. Community Engagement: Assist with outreach programs to promote recycling and waste reduction; respond to public inquiries and concerns. Data & Reporting: Collect and analyze operational data, prepare reports, and recommend improvements for efficiency and sustainability. Innovation: Identify and implement new technologies and best practices to enhance recycling rates and reduce environmental impact. Groundskeeping: Perform mowing, hedge trimming, raking, sweeping, and disposal of refuse. Phone/Nextel Availability: Maintain phone or Nextel for emergency communication. Winter Service: Serve on call and assist with snow removal operations at any BSU campus during winter months. Other Related Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned. Required Qualifications Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used for solid waste and recycling. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in solid waste and recycling. Knowledge of standard preventive maintenance procedures in solid waste and recycling. Knowledge of small hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, etc. Knowledge of hand‑held power tools such as drills. Skill in using small hand tools including pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Skill in using hand‑held power tools such as drills. Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work, controlling work, assessing training needs, motivating subordinates, and initiating disciplinary action. Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet, etc.) strongly desired. Proven ability to work independently.
