Title Psychiatric Care Technicians/CNA – AM Shift State Role Title Direct Service Associate III Hiring Range Minimum Salary: $38,630 per year – Salary commensurate with relevant years of experience. Pay Band 3 Agency Department of Behavioral Health/Developmental Services (DBHDS) Agency Website Location Southwestern VA Mental Health Institute – Marion, VA Recruitment Type General Public – G Position Details 12‑hour AM Shift. Work hours: 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Working at least every other weekend. Shift differentials and weekend/holiday supplements available. Responsibilities Providing quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team. Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment. Creating healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions, geriatric, and extended rehabilitation service units. Observing and reporting feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical condition, emotional well‑being, and other situations, and documenting and communicating this using specialized training to promote mental wellness and recovery. Key Skills and Competencies Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe patient behavior by observing, interacting, and listening. Ability to read, write, and speak in English. Ability to observe, report, and document changes in patients’ mental, physical, and behavioral status. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to maintain all required orientations and annual competencies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, and patients from varied backgrounds using interpersonal skills. Ability to recognize the need and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment. Ability to give and receive effective feedback and perform as a member of a team. Ability to administer CPR and perform therapeutic options approved by physical interventions. Ability to work overtime hours, rotating weekends, and holidays. Ability to use email and electronic health records. Will obtain CNA certification by the Virginia Board of Nursing within the probationary period. Minimum Qualifications Obtain a CNA certification within the probationary period and maintain CNA certification in good standing with the VA State Board of Nursing. Additional Considerations Experience in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long‑term care, or correctional setting is preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
