FLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Program Director / Youth Development DirectorPosition SummaryThe Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting YMCA participants to and from YMCA programs, schools, and community locations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, punctuality, and positive experience of all riders while modeling the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.Essential FunctionsSafely operate YMCA vehicles in compliance with all state and local traffic lawsTransport program participants to and from designated locations according to assigned schedulesConduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns promptlyEnsure proper supervision and safe behavior of passengers during transportMaintain accurate attendance, mileage, and trip logs as requiredCommunicate effectively with YMCA staff regarding schedules, delays, or concernsFollow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocolsMaintain cleanliness and orderly condition of the vehicleProvide courteous, professional interactions with participants, families, staff, and community partnersYMCA Competencies (Leader)Mission Advancement: Demonstrates commitment to YMCA values and youth safetyCollaboration: Works effectively with program staff and participantsOperational Effectiveness: Ensures safe, reliable, and timely transportationPersonal Growth: Maintains required certifications and seeks ongoing improvementChild Abuse Prevention language:Employees and volunteers who directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Employees and volunteers who do not directly supervise consumers will:Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.Attend required abuse risk management training.Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.Maintenance employees and volunteers—ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.Front desk personnel—ensure consumers are properly signed in and signed out,ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredValid driver’s license with acceptable driving recordCommercial Driver’s License (CDL) required if applicable to vehicle typePrevious professional driving experience preferredAbility to pass background checks, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening per ALDOTCPR/AED and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe)Work SchedulePart-time hours based on program needsFlexible availability required, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekendsPhysical DemandsAbility to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicleAbility to assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicleAbility to lift up to 40 pounds occasionallyAbility to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situationsEqual Opportunity EmployerThe YMCA of South Alabama is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity.
