Since 1972, Santa Monica House has provided compassionate, structured, and supportive residential care to women empowered to overcome addiction. We are dedicated to providing a safe, continuous environment where residents can heal, rebuild, and gain the skills necessary for long-term recovery.

Position Summary

We are seeking dedicated Therapeutic Mentors to join our direct care team. In this role, you will provide continuous supervision, mentorship, and support to adult women residing in our 24/7 substance use treatment facility. You will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and compassionate environment, particularly during evenings, nights, and weekend hours.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Resident Care & Mentorship

• Build supportive, empathetic, and professional relationships with residents.
• Provide continuous supervision and guidance to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and secure environment.
• Observe resident medication times and accurately document compliance or noncompliance.
• Assist residents in navigating 12-Step recovery concepts and community support resources.
• Orient new clients to facility rules and address non-compliance with tact and therapeutic boundaries.

Documentation & Operations

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of resident activities, progress, and needs per agency record-keeping standards.
• Answer incoming calls and direct referrals to appropriate clinical or administrative staff.
• Operate basic office equipment (computers, phone systems) to support facility needs.
• Perform routine light maintenance, upkeep, and oversight of facility spaces to keep the house clean and welcoming.

Teamwork & Professional Development

• Collaborate closely with therapeutic, administrative, and volunteer staff to deliver cohesive care.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings and service planning sessions.
• Attend ongoing internal and external training, including education on co-occurring mental health disorders, to expand clinical knowledge and skills.
• Maintain excellent attendance, punctuality, and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Associate’s degree or higher in Human Services or related field preferred).
• Experience: Previous experience in human services/substance use treatment, OR lived recovery experience with demonstrated skills/competencies in addiction services.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with 12-Step recovery principles and substance abuse recovery programs.
• Licensure: Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to remain calm, respectful, and composed under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in a residential substance abuse or behavioral health setting.
• Ongoing education or degree coursework in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, or a related field.
