Job Position: Sign Language Interpreter Location: Rock Hill, SC 29730 Sign Language Interpreter Location: Rock Hill, SC Schedule: Full-time, school-based Employment Type: Contract Pay Rate: Starting at $40/hour (dependent on experience) Position Overview Birch Agency is seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school-based setting in Rock Hill, South Carolina . This opportunity is ideal for an interpreter who is passionate about providing students with effective communication access and helping them fully participate in classroom instruction, school activities, and the broader educational environment. An EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is required to be considered for this position. Key Responsibilities Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students during classroom instruction and school-related activities. Interpret lessons, discussions, assignments, meetings, assemblies, and other educational activities. Facilitate communication between students, teachers, peers, administrators, and support staff. Adapt interpreting approaches to meet individual students' communication needs and learning styles. Support student participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities. Prepare for instructional content and review academic terminology to ensure accurate interpretation. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and school administrators. Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, professional development, and school trainings as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines. Document services as required by the school or district. Qualifications EIPA score of 3.5+ or RID Certification required to be considered Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in interpreting, Deaf Education, or a related field is a plus. Educational interpreting experience is a plus. RID certification or other relevant interpreting credentials is a plus. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team. Commitment to supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an inclusive educational environment.
