We are looking for a Public Staff Tax Accountant to support tax related priorities for a Contract position. This opportunity is suited to someone who can prepare returns accurately, contribute to general accounting work as needed, and adapt to changing business needs in a public accounting environment. The role may be structured as ongoing or part-time depending on workload, and it offers the chance to make an immediate impact through dependable tax and accounting support.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review individual and corporate tax returns with a strong focus on accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.

• Handle tax preparation assignments during peak filing periods while maintaining organized workpapers and supporting documentation.

• Assist with accounting-related tasks that support engagements and overall operations.

• Use CCH ProSystem fx and related tax software to complete filings, manage return data, and maintain efficient workflow progress.

• Communicate clearly with internal team members to address open items, resolve return issues, and keep projects moving forward.

• Adjust to evolving workload demands, which may include part-time or ongoing support based on seasonal and business requirements.

• Provide experienced tax and accounting assistance on more complex matters when broader hands-on support is needed.

• Contribute to a smooth service experience by meeting deadlines and upholding high standards across assignments.

• Prior experience preparing individual tax returns in a public accounting or similar work setting.
• Hands-on background completing corporate tax returns with a solid understanding of tax preparation processes.
• Proficiency with CCH ProSystem fx or comparable tax software.
• Working knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to assist with general accounting tasks when needed.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under deadline-driven conditions.
• Effective organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced seasonal environment.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with team members on shared priorities.
