Mental Health Therapist

Children's Advocacy Center of NEPA

The Mental Health Therapist is a full-time, in-person clinical role reporting to the Director of Administrative and Clinical Services. This position provides trauma-informed, evidence-based mental health services to children and their non-offending family members served by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania (CAC of NEPA). This role supports children and families across CAC of NEPA service locations, including Scranton, New Milford, and Tunkhannock, with the potential to serve additional sites throughout the Northeastern Pennsylvania footprint as services expand. To ensure access to care for school-aged children and working caregivers, this position requires the flexibility to work some non-traditional hours, including late afternoons and early evenings, as well as make occasional schedule adjustments. The therapist plays a critical role in supporting healing following forensic interviews and throughout treatment while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, child-centered care. What You’ll Do Clinical Service Delivery Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations using psychosocial assessments and validated tools Develop individualized treatment plans based on evaluation findings Deliver specialized, evidence-based trauma-focused therapy to children and non-offending caregivers Meet regularly with caregivers to review progress, address concerns, and provide psychoeducation Maintain a minimum of 20-25 direct face-to-face clinical hours per week through individual and/or family therapy Provide services across the CAC of NEPA office locations as needed to support access to care Multidisciplinary Collaboration Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions Provide insight into developmental, emotional, and trauma-related concerns Consult on family dynamics and the impact of abuse when requested Collaborate with CAC staff and community partners to ensure coordinated trauma-informed care Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation Ensure services align with National Children’s Alliance standards, applicable laws, and organizational policies Support billing operations by maintaining accurate insurance and PCCD information to ensure timely reimbursement Supervision & Professional Development Participate in regular clinical supervision with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in accordance with NCA standards Engage in ongoing professional development through training and continuing education Stay current on best practices related to child abuse and trauma therapy What You Bring Required Qualifications License in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field OR Master’s degree in a related field with license eligibility Working knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and Child Protective Services law Comfort working with clients across the lifespan, including individuals experiencing trauma and grief Preferred Qualifications Training and/or certification in: TF-CBT, AF-CBT, CFTSI, PCIT, Problematic Sexual Behavior interventions Experience in child abuse and trauma therapy Experience in a Children’s Advocacy Center or multidisciplinary team model Bilingual proficiency Skills That Help You Succeed Excellent time management and organizational skills Strong written and verbal communication Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Commitment to child-centered, trauma-informed care Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately Ability to obtain FBI, PA State Police, and ChildLine clearances Work Environment & Physical Requirements This role may require sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying objects up to 40 pounds, and tasks requiring manual dexterity. Performance & Evaluation The Mental Health Therapist will be evaluated annually based on performance, fulfillment of responsibilities, and alignment with CAC of NEPA’s mission, values, and professional standards.
