Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing processes of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role includes directing and coordinating nursing care for patients in line with nursing practice standards. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is essential to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Registered Nurse serves as a resource person as needed and applies age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. This position supports the organization's mission statement and involves caring for patients from birth through elderly stages.

Position Qualifications:

• Minimum Education: Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN approved institution.
• Minimum Experience: Preferred one year of experience in a healthcare setting as a Registered Nurse.
• License, Certification, Registration: Must be licensed in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Alaska. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. The successful candidate will need to pass and maintain competencies for this position.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to practice nursing as outlined in Alaska State regulations regarding Registered Nursing.
• Cognitive and technical knowledge necessary to manage care across the continuum.
• Flexibility in work schedule and capability to take independent actions within prescribed limits.
• Utilizes the nursing process effectively in the provision of patient care.
• Ability to administer treatments and medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide education to patients and their families.
• Basic EKG and nursing skills. Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Capability to document care delivery actions and follow established guidelines and procedures.
• Ability to compute various mathematical calculations and interpret data.
• Skills in problem-solving and dealing with variable situations and instructions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position includes supervising unit secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
