Transportation Project Manager

Project ManagerEffectively manages projects and activities on a range of project types and sizes, including traffic-related projects. Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of team members and coordinating with internal and external project team to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and adhere to all Quality Control/Quality Assurance requirements. Participates in marketing and business development activities and may participate in the recruiting and staff development processes.This position emphasizes technical ability with a basic understanding of the financial and marketing aspects of the business. Project initiation, execution and completion are integral with a growing understanding of other aspects in the project life cycle.Essential FunctionsParticipate in proposal development and interviews for a range of project sizes and typesParticipate in business development efforts through understanding the local client market and participating in professional organizationsAssist in reviewing agreementsParticipate in identifying project team and staffing requirements consistent with contractual obligationsInitiate projects with the accounting department and participate in monthly invoicing of projects and tracking accounts' receivablesLead kick-off meeting(s) to convey scope, tasks, and budgets to team membersCollaborate with client and stakeholders to develop a project schedule which aligns with client's project delivery goalsManage day-to-day activities for projects of varying complexity and coordinate with internal and external multidisciplinary team members to ensure deliverables meet project requirementsManage project communication and deliverables to ensure the quality of documentation and professionalismDelegate tasks and lead the team in developing design criteria, performing analyses, and preparing design documents on a wide range of project types and sizesConduct Quality Control/Quality Assurance reviews of work completed on assigned projects, including traffic signal plans and traffic studiesPrepare and conduct client and stakeholder presentations with support from senior managementMonitor project financial performance and update project staffing requirements to meet financial goalsCollaborate with senior managers to strategize successful project delivery, financial performance, and risk mitigationLead construction administration activities including resolving construction related issues, disputes, and disagreementsConduct the close-out documentation process internally and with contractors, clients, and agencies; identify lessons learned to be presented to internal staff membersAssist in the authoring of project descriptions and resumes to be incorporated into marketing materialsMaintain effective working relationships with team members and clients; mentor and support less experienced team membersEnsure compliance with all TERRA standards and guidelinesMay participate in recruiting activitiesPerform other duties as requiredEducation/ExperienceBachelor's degree in applicable discipline8+ years of applicable engineering experienceProject management experience preferredProfessional Licensure preferredProfessional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) Certification strongly preferredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to successfully engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment and communicate with clients and build relationships and trustProficient in managing teams and projects across multiple disciplinesStrong ability to convey information through effective verbal and written communicationHighly proficient with computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering.Strong proficiency in general documentation software such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and BluebeamProficient using project management software and tools for financial management, reporting, and resource utilizationDemonstrated public speaking, presentation, and leadership abilities.Demonstrated understanding of industry and construction practices, methodologies, and best engineering practices and leverages that understanding to lead engineering efforts through all project stagesAble to conduct site visits as needed, may require a valid driver's licenseEffectively maintains office and field health & safety requirements and protocolsMaintains a work schedule conducive to team collaboration and project-specific requirementsPhysical RequirementsInvolves sitting a considerable amount of the time, but requires the ability to inspect work and supervise project teams on a construction site or other field locationMay exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to move objectsOccasionally lifts and carries up to 25 poundsConsiderable time is spent at a workstation using a computer and using various forms of communication (telephone, email, messaging, etc.)Field work includes exposure to outside weather conditions and various environmental conditions depending on the sitePhysical activities include walking and occasional stooping and crouchingAbout TERRA EngineeringTERRA Engineering, Ltd. was founded by Karen Steingraber and Jamil Bou-Saab in 1992, beginning their journey building strong relationships with clients.
