1. Clinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs, strengths, and treatment goals.
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with evidence-based practices and applicable regulations.
- Provide ongoing medication management and psychiatric follow-up services.
- Assess risk factors including suicidality, self-harm, abuse, neglect, and other safety concerns and implement appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with therapists, case managers, nurses, and other providers to coordinate care and ensure continuity of services.
- Review and interpret clinical, psychological, educational, and medical information to support assessment and treatment planning.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with organizational, state, federal, and licensing requirements.
2. Trauma-Informed Care
- Utilize trauma-informed approaches in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and client interactions.
- Recognize the impact of trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and family systems on mental health and behavioral functioning.
- Support resilience-building and strengths-based interventions with clients and families.
3. Collaboration and Consultation
- Participate as an active member of interdisciplinary treatment teams. Promote Children's Home Society's mission, values, and commitment to serving children and families.
- Consult with internal and external providers regarding client care and treatment recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, referral sources, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners.
- Provide education and guidance to clients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
4. Quality and Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all applicable standards of practice, ethical guidelines, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, case reviews, peer consultation, and staff meetings.
- Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.

Requirements
Required
- Education: Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience providing psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and adults; experience working with individuals experiencing mental health disorders, behavioral health challenges, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences; knowledge of psychopharmacology, diagnostic assessment, and evidence-based treatment practices; and strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Licensure: Current South Dakota licensure as an APRN with certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), or eligibility for licensure; eligible for prescriptive authority and DEA registration.
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Experience working in community mental health, residential treatment, outpatient behavioral health, or integrated healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care models.
- Experience working with children and families involved in child welfare, foster care, or residential services.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR).
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- This position operates in behavioral health, outpatient, residential, and/or community-based treatment settings. The employee may work with individuals experiencing emotional distress, behavioral challenges, or psychiatric crises and must maintain professionalism and composure in a variety of clinical situations.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform work in an office or clinical environment.
- Ability to utilize standard office equipment and electronic medical record systems.
- Ability to occasionally travel between service locations as needed.
