Systems Engineer - Design and Development - Fire Control Hardware

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Responsibilities for this Position ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking an Advanced Systems Engineer 1 to support the D5LE2 program within the SWC Fire Control engineering organization. The successful candidate will apply systems engineering fundamentals across the full system life cycle, contributing to the design, analysis, and verification of mission-critical fire control subsystems supporting the U.S. Navy's strategic deterrent. This role requires proficient technical skills, the ability to work with moderate independence, and a growing ability to drive engineering outcomes within a complex, long-horizon program environment.What sets you apart:Demonstrated proficiency across the systems development life cycle with growing independenceProficient with requirements management and system modeling tools (DOORS, Cameo/MagicDraw, or Simulink)Effective communicator who can clearly present technical findings and recommendationsCollaborative team player who takes ownership of assigned subsystem areasGrowing ability to apply MBSE and digital engineering concepts to real program deliverablesCommitment to professional development and mentoring junior team membersKey Responsibilities:Apply systems engineering fundamentals to perform requirements analysis, definition, and management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, integration and test (verification) for D5LE2 subsystemsUtilize MBSE tools (Cameo/MagicDraw, DOORS) to develop, maintain, and communicate system architectures and models in support of upcoming D5LE2 program milestonesApply critical thinking to identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses with increasing independencePerform interface definition studies of system components and productsResearch and analyze vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationDesign complete and complex frameworks, systems, or products within assigned subsystem scopeGenerate technical engineering products using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and toolsDevelop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems; support system accreditation/certification evaluationPerform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elementsDrive the achievement of business objectives within assigned scopeSupport Modeling and Simulation activities in alignment with D5LE2 program objectivesIdentify opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovationKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Proficient understanding and application of systems engineering principles, concepts, and theories in a safety-critical defense program environmentProficient use of tools for managing requirements (DOORS) and modeling systems (Cameo/MagicDraw or equivalent)Developing proficiency with MBSE methodologies and digital engineering concepts; familiarity with architectural patterns (SysML)Proficient written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering designFamiliar in hardware development, such as electrical and networking systems, equipment racks, servers, cabling, and user interfaces.Proficient ability to effectively use Microsoft Office tools for various tasksAbility to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle complex assignments efficientlyAwareness of business objectives and the role of engineering in achieving these goalsSkilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions effectivelyUnderstanding of safety and surety principles in the context of strategic weapons systemsOur Commitment to You:An exciting career path with opportunities for continuous learning and development.
