Location: Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas. Department: Surgery. Shift: Full Time Day 5, 8‑Hour Shifts. On Call: 30min arrival time. Job Summary The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing model to coordinate patient care. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized care plans, and evaluates patient responses to promote safe passage and prevent complications. The RN delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and staff competencies. Essential Functions Of The Role Conducts accurate assessments, identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs, and develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies nursing care plans. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supports evidence‑based practice changes, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. Creates an attentive, helpful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Incorporates culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, status, age, and values into a personalized care plan. Preserves confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families, represents their concerns, and resolves ethical and clinical issues. Facilitates learning for patients, families, nursing staff, the health care team, and the community, integrating education throughout care to encourage informed decisions. Collaborates with colleagues and community members, delegates tasks, ensures timely follow‑up, and values all contributions. Uses strategies and resources for problem‑solving, recognizing limited resources and focusing on safety, effectiveness, and efficiency. Key Success Factors Knowledge and expertise in nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Familiarity with laws, rules, regulations, and standards of certifying and accrediting bodies. Understanding of medical terminology, health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention, medication dosages, effects, and adverse reactions. Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong social skills for interacting with a wide range of constituencies. Critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities. Monitoring and communicating changes in patients’ medical conditions to nursing staff and physicians/providers. Provision of age‑specific, quality, patient‑centered care through the nursing process, while respecting diversity. General computer skills including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and e‑mail. Required Qualifications BSN degree in Nursing.
