The engineering team works on some of the most technically challenging problems across C++, distributed systems, networking, Linux, high-performance computing, and performance optimization . This is not a narrowly defined "low-latency C++" role. Depending on the problem, you could work on: Exchange connectivity and networking Distributed storage and research infrastructure Automated trading strategies alongside quantitative researchers Linux, concurrency, and memory management Latency and throughput optimization Lock-free data structures and compiler-level optimization Distributed systems and high-performance computing Production infrastructure supporting a continuously operating trading platform Re-architecting systems when existing designs become limiting Who They're Looking For Headlands is looking for exceptional engineers and problem solvers , rather than candidates from one specific background. You may have: Excellent C++ programming ability Strong software engineering, algorithmic, and problem-solving fundamentals A deep understanding of computer systems Experience with Linux, networking, distributed systems, HPC, or performance engineering A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience Genuine intellectual curiosity and an interest in understanding complex systems The ability to reason across different levels of abstraction, from individual machines to large-scale systems A collaborative, low-ego approach to engineering Previous experience in trading or financial services is not required. What matters most is your ability to solve difficult technical problems and build systems where performance, scalability, correctness, and reliability truly matter .
