Funeral Director

Overview Our associates celebrate lives. We celebrate our associates. Compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions with deceased next of kin and presides over visitation, funeral, and graveside services in accordance with family’s wishes; company expectations; and local, state, or federal laws. As the licensed Funeral Director, responsible for the compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulation compliance within the funeral establishment(s). Responsibilities Arrangements Conference: Initiate and conduct arrangements conferences, assess client needs, summarize desired outcomes, discuss available life insurance and benefits, promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services and merchandise, and transition the conference to the Funeral Services Counselor/Advisor for cemetery property, merchandise options, pricing, and contract completion. Service Delivery: Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services in a professional, organized, and caring manner; be present for graveside services included in the purchase agreement; verify that personal belongings are removed from the deceased prior to burial; visually inspect casket dressing and attire, and communicate concerns to preparation staff. Family Interaction: Interact with the family to fulfill death care requests and obtain leads for pre-need services. Operations: Update removal status in proprietary software; review and authorize merchandise and service contract revisions; may perform removals or transfers in accordance with company standards and processes; may perform FSA/FSC responsibilities in absence of dedicated staff. Event Planning and Preparation: Plan event logistics, order music, flowers, catering, and other resources; produce memorial products, create obituaries and online memorials; prepare event spaces, and handle post-event cleanup and storage; may perform attendant duties (parking, driving, ushering, pallbearer, courier) and attend community events to represent the location. Minimum requirements Education & Licenses: Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science; current Funeral Director license in the practicing state; valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to operate company-owned vehicles. Experience: Industry experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Cognitive ability to reason, plan, identify problems, learn quickly, and apply learning to new situations; process- and results-oriented with the ability to move projects forward by removing obstacles; positive attitude, self-motivation, and a drive to advance in the industry; ability to build professional relationships; professional written and verbal communication; public speaking with the ability to influence and gain consensus; proficient with databases and MS Office tools. Work conditions Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather. Attire: Professional business attire when in contact with families. Postures: Frequent periods of sitting or standing up to 6 hours per day; may involve frequent stair climbing. Physical Demands: Manual dexterity for paperwork, calculators, computers, and phone usage; ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds on various surfaces.
