AWC is hiring a full-time Operations Manager for our Chicago Ford location near 122nd & Torrence. This night shift position runs from 5:30 pm to 2:30 am, Monday through Friday. The general pay range for this position is $72,000–$78,000. Summary of Position The Operations Manager is responsible for organizing, motivating, and scheduling staff and directing the day-to-day operations of all rail, yard, shuttle, and plant functions, or any combination thereof. The incumbent ensures the quality receipt, movement, and storage of vehicles through efficient productivity of the work crews, and coordinates the activities of all associates under the direction of the Terminal Manager to ensure a well‑coordinated, productive operation. Essential Functions, Duties & Tasks Daily scheduling of personnel to complete receipt, movement, storage, and pre‑delivery inspections productively, cost‑efficiently, and safely. Direct the facility's day‑to‑day activities. Oversee vehicle receipt, movement, and storage. Oversee pre‑delivery inspections. Assign personnel to job locations. Oversee yard operations. Ensure personnel have the support, tools, and supplies needed for production. Conduct audits and make suggestions for corrective actions as needed. Observe operations and assist where needed. Ensure all AWC policies and procedures are followed. Communicate daily with leads, other staff, and office personnel to determine staffing, supply, and operational needs; ensuring daily manpower plans are met and there are no service failures to the customer. Participate in and ensure new associates receive the appropriate training. Conduct progressive disciplinary processes in counseling, coaching, warnings, and corrective actions to maintain a productive labor climate. Oversee supervisor direct reports to ensure daily labor accounting using the Workforce Time & Attendance system; serve as backup to supervisors in correcting and editing associate time if needed. Accurately interpret and mentor supervisors in the practices and standards under the CBA to avoid grievances and disputes; seek guidance from senior management if unsure. Ensure all end‑of‑shift reports and associated daily paperwork are completed on time and accurately. Document performance issues and coordinate corrective action with the Terminal Manager. Maintain staff adherence to safety programs to provide a safe, clean workplace and comply with local, state, and OSHA standards. Report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicate them to customers, vendors, and AWC personnel at the time of the incident. Ensure that all AAR, customer, and AWC policies, processes, and procedures are followed. Hold direct reports and hourly associates accountable to the CBA. Coach, mentor all direct and indirect reporting associates. Perform any other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals such as the AAR Manual. Effective supervisory and delegation skills. Ability to communicate deficiencies diplomatically and appropriately. Work with a great deal of autonomy. Maintain confidentiality of documents and information. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Must work outdoors 60% of the shift. Mechanical aptitude. Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook, Time & Attendance software; willingness to learn proprietary AWC VIPs software). Education, Experience & Minimum Requirements Read, write, and communicate in English. Computer literacy. High School Diploma or equivalent. 3–5 years supervisory experience, preferably in a logistics or manufacturing environment. Excellent leadership, management, and organizational skills. Good driving record and a valid state driver’s license. Ability to drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Work indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Treat all individuals with respect and dignity. Positive attitude and ability to work in a team‑oriented culture with strong communication skills. Customer‑focused, results‑oriented, with solid decision‑making abilities. Resolve conflict and build relationships. Adaptable and use effective coaching and mentoring skills. Preferred Requirements Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
