Director of Operations

The Director of Operations provides operational leadership for the MarinHealth Medical Network Heart & Vascular service line, including Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, and related ambulatory programs. The Director partners closely with physician leaders, practice managers, hospital leadership, and shared services to advance strategic initiatives, improve patient access, optimize financial and operational performance, and deliver an exceptional patient experience. This leader is responsible for the day-to-day operations of multiple ambulatory practices while serving as the operational partner for physician leadership. Responsibilities include practice operations, access management, staffing, financial performance, quality improvement, physician recruitment, APP workforce planning, service line growth, and implementation of strategic initiatives across the Heart & Vascular continuum. The Director is expected to lead through influence, foster strong physician relationships, and utilize data to drive operational excellence while supporting MarinHealth's strategic vision for cardiovascular services.

Leadership & Operations

  • Provides clinic operational oversight for the ambulatory Heart & Vascular service line, including Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, and future cardiovascular service line expansion.
  • Directly oversees Practice Leaders and develops leadership capabilities across the service line.
  • Partners with physician leaders to improve operational efficiency, patient access, quality, physician satisfaction, and financial performance.
  • Leads day-to-day clinic operations while ensuring alignment with organizational strategic priorities.

Access & Growth

  • Develops and implements strategies to improve patient access, referral management, provider productivity, and clinic capacity.
  • Partners with physicians and executive leadership to develop business plans supporting growth initiatives, new programs, physician recruitment, and expansion opportunities.
  • Identifies operational barriers impacting patient throughput and implements sustainable solutions.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Develops, monitors, and manages operational budgets.
  • Reviews productivity, access, staffing, quality, and financial metrics; develops action plans to improve performance.
  • Leads operational improvement initiatives using Lean and continuous improvement methodologies.

Physician & APP Workforce

  • Partners with physician leadership on recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and provider retention.
  • Develops APP staffing strategies to optimize physician efficiency and improve patient access.
  • Supports physician compensation planning by providing operational and productivity analysis.

Quality & Patient Experience

  • Leads initiatives to improve patient experience, access, safety, and quality metrics.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborates with Quality, Compliance, Revenue Cycle, IT, and ancillary departments to improve clinical operations.

Strategic Leadership

  • Serves as the operational representative for the Heart & Vascular service line on organizational committees and strategic initiatives.
  • Leads implementation of new clinical programs, technology, workflow redesign, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Partners with hospital operations to optimize the continuum of care between inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience.
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 5-10 years' experience in a multi-clinic healthcare environment.
  • 3-5 years' experience managing supervisor level and above.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ambulatory healthcare delivery and management.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management, operations change management, and strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations (federal, state, and clinical)
  • Knowledge/experience with EHR and/or practice management systems (Apex/Epic a plus)
  • Project management experience preferred.

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth's compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
