Core Talent Services is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-regarded law firm with a strong maritime and admiralty practice in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans is one of the most active maritime legal markets in the United States, and this firm has established itself as a trusted and sophisticated presence in that market. They are seeking an experienced Maritime Attorney to join their team and contribute meaningfully to a practice that handles complex, high-stakes matters across the full spectrum of admiralty and maritime law. This is an opportunity for an attorney with genuine maritime experience to bring their expertise to a firm that will support and invest in their professional growth. Compensation is intentionally structured to reflect experience — the more you bring, the more this role can offer. Whether you are a third-year associate ready to take on more responsibility or a senior attorney looking for a better platform, this firm wants to hear from you.
WHY NEW ORLEANS FOR MARITIME LAW
New Orleans sits at the intersection of the Gulf of Mexico, the Mississippi River, and one of the most active port systems in the world. The Southern District of Louisiana and the Eastern District are among the busiest maritime dockets in the country. For a maritime attorney, New Orleans is not just a place to practice — it is the epicenter of American admiralty law. The density of maritime clients, the depth of the local maritime bar, and the volume and complexity of matters available here are unmatched outside of Houston.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Represent clients in admiralty and maritime matters in federal and state courts, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals
• Handle maritime personal injury claims including Jones Act seaman cases, longshoreman and harbor worker matters, and general maritime negligence
• Manage cargo claims, vessel damage matters, and marine insurance coverage disputes
• Draft and review maritime contracts including charter parties, bills of lading, towing agreements, vessel purchase agreements, and marine services contracts
• Advise clients on maritime lien issues, vessel arrests, and in rem proceedings
• Handle offshore energy and platform-related injury litigation including OCS workers and OCSLA claims
• Conduct depositions of maritime experts, vessel crew, surveyors, and treating physicians
• Manage discovery, motions practice, and pretrial preparation on complex maritime matters
• Counsel clients on maritime regulatory compliance including USCG, OSHA, and environmental regulations
• Negotiate settlements and manage alternative dispute resolution in maritime matters
• Collaborate with co-counsel, expert witnesses, marine surveyors, and investigators as needed
• Maintain and develop client relationships and contribute to business development efforts over time PRACTICE AREAS — DEFENSE AND PLAINTIFF CONSIDERED
The firm considers candidates from both plaintiff and defense backgrounds. Experience in any of the following areas is relevant:
• Jones Act seaman injury litigation
• Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) matters
• Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) cases
• General maritime negligence and unseaworthiness claims
• Marine cargo claims and bill of lading disputes

• Vessel arrests, maritime liens, and in rem proceedings
• Towage, wharfage, and vessel collision matters
• Offshore platform and energy industry injury litigation

• Charter party disputes and commercial maritime contracts REQUIREMENTS
• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active Louisiana State Bar license in good standing — required
• Minimum 3 years of admiralty and maritime law experience — required

• Working knowledge of the Jones Act, general maritime law, LHWCA, and federal admiralty jurisdiction
