Certified Medical Assistant

Job Summary:


The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in an adult outpatient internal medicine clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, assisting with procedures such as Pap smears, specimen collection, performing laboratory tests, managing office duties, and supporting patient care activities. The role requires strong professional skills, effective communication, and adherence to clinic protocols. A minimum of 2 years of experience and appropriate certifications are required.

Responsibilities:

• Obtain vital signs including height/weight, pulse oximetry, and vision testing.
• Set up and assist with procedures such as Pap smears and suture removal.
• Collect specimens including throat swabs, urine (UA/clean catch), and perform venipuncture.
• Conduct laboratory tests including blood glucose via glucometer, pregnancy tests, strep tests, and urine dipstick/urinalysis.
• Perform office duties such as authorization forms, chart preparation, pharmacy calls, patient refill requests, and stocking supplies.
• Make follow-up phone calls and assist with rooming patients.
• Perform professional tasks like suture removal and support other clinical activities as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of medical assistant experience in an adult outpatient clinic.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Proficiency in vital signs measurement, specimen collection, and laboratory testing.
• Ability to perform Pap smears and assist with medical procedures.
• Strong knowledge of internal medicine clinic operations.
• Must bring own stethoscope.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in private physician's office settings.
• Skills in positioning/draping patients and recording history, medications, and allergies.
• Ability to administer immunizations and TB tests.
• Experience with ear lavage procedures.

Special Considerations:

• Return to office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite.
• Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit may result in cancellation and do not resuscitate (DNR) status.
• CMAs must bring their own stethoscope; no stethoscopes provided onsite.
• No call, float, or weekend requirements.

Scheduling:

• 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
• 8-hour shift from 07:00 to 16:00.
• Shift assignments are per clinic needs.
• 13-week assignments accepted.
