Job Title: Quality Control Manager Welding Job Description

This full-time, direct placement role is based in Lenexa, KS and focuses on leading welding quality control for boiler and pressure vessel projects. You will develop, implement, and maintain welding quality control procedures to ensure compliance with applicable codes, customer specifications, and internal standards. In this position, you oversee welding inspection activities, coordinate non-destructive examination (NDE), and manage documentation for weld overlays and related repairs. You regularly audit job sites and shop operations, resolve quality issues, analyze weld data and reports, and provide guidance and training to welding and inspection personnel. You work closely with project management, engineering, operations, and safety teams to drive continuous improvement, reduce rework, and maintain consistent quality performance across all customer projects.

• Develop, implement, and maintain welding quality control procedures and programs for boiler and pressure vessel projects.
• Ensure all welding activities comply with applicable codes, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.
• Review, approve, and maintain welding procedures and welder qualifications, including procedure qualification records and related documentation.
• Supervise and coordinate welding inspection activities in both shop and field environments.
• Plan and coordinate NDE activities (such as VT, PT, and UT thickness) and ensure proper documentation of inspection results.
• Oversee documentation for weld overlays, repair welding, and related welding activities, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
• Audit job sites and shop operations on a regular basis to verify adherence to welding quality control procedures and safety requirements.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve welding-related quality issues, nonconformances, and deviations in a timely manner.
• Analyze weld data, inspection reports, and quality metrics to identify trends, drive corrective actions, and reduce rework.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training to welding and inspection personnel on welding techniques, procedures, and quality expectations.
• Collaborate closely with project management, engineering, operations, and safety teams to support project planning and execution.
• Coordinate quality control activities across multiple projects, balancing priorities and resources to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing welding quality, minimizing downtime, and improving overall reliability.
• Communicate effectively with customer representatives regarding welding quality requirements, inspection results, and corrective actions.
• Use common welding and NDE tools and equipment safely and effectively during inspections and audits.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents to ensure welding work aligns with design and code requirements.
• Prepare and maintain quality-related reports, records, and documentation using Microsoft Office and other software tools.
• Ensure that all assigned duties and responsibilities are carried out in an ethical, safe, and professional manner.
• Remain flexible and available to work when called upon to support project schedules and customer needs.

• Demonstrated welding quality control and inspection experience, including work with relevant codes for boilers and pressure vessels.
• Hands-on familiarity with industrial welding processes such as automated weld overlay, repair welding, and related shop and field applications.
• Competence in NDE methods, including visual testing (VT), penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic (UT) thickness measurements.
• Experience with positive material identification (PMI) verification and interpreting inspection results and reports.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage welding quality control programs and coordinate multiple concurrent projects.
• Proven ability to train, mentor, and guide welding and inspection personnel in quality and inspection practices.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with project management, engineering, operations, and customer representatives.
• Working knowledge of safety regulations and quality management systems, with a focus on minimizing downtime and preventing rework.
• At least five (5) years of hands-on work experience in the welding industry, including management of fabrication and welding quality responsibilities.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and technical documents related to welding and fabrication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software programs used for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
• Ability to follow instructions provided orally or in writing and to execute tasks accurately and consistently.

• Experience working with boilers and pressure vessels in industries such as refining, petrochemical, chemical processing, pulp and paper, or power utilities.
• Practical knowledge of welding techniques, weld processes, and welding projects within a structured quality management system.
• Familiarity with welding quality assurance standards and welding quality control management practices.
• Working knowledge of OSHA-related safety practices in industrial and construction environments.
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or an equivalent credential.
• Technical degree, diploma, or formal education in welding, engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience using or supporting quality management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ability to use common tools and equipment in the welding and NDE industries safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills for reviewing weld data, inspection reports, and quality records.
• Flexibility to travel to project sites when needed and willingness to adjust to changing project demands.

You can expect a professional industrial environment that integrates office-based planning and reporting with hands-on oversight of shop and field welding operations, supported by established safety and quality management practices.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lenexa, KS.

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $115000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
