Serve as a senior legal advisor on workplace matters for a portfolio of business clients, working closely with a partner while holding real autonomy. The work blends client counseling, drafting and negotiation, transactional support and coaching of junior lawyers.## What you'll do* Act as lead or supporting counsel on a broad range of workplace legal issues, from hiring through separations.* **Support deal teams by examining workforce-related contracts**, contractor status and employee benefit commitments.* Prepare and negotiate employment contracts, severance terms, post-employment restrictions and equity-related paperwork for several states.* Give clients practical, forward-looking guidance on keeping their workforce practices compliant wherever employees are located.* **Own a book of clients and build direct**, trusted relationships with them.* Pursue enforcement of post-employment restrictions and run or supervise internal workplace inquiries.* Handle responses to complaints brought by government employment agencies.* Coach junior attorneys and help with business development and work that spans practice areas.## What we're looking for* At least 7 years practicing employment law, with a law firm background rather than only in-house roles.* A law degree and an active bar admission, ideally Texas, though other states may be considered.* Hands-on experience advising on workforce issues in company acquisitions, including moving employees from one employer to another.* A track record of preparing and negotiating workplace paperwork such as post-employment restrictions, separation terms and policy manuals.* Solid grounding in national and state-level workplace regulation.* Comfort managing clients independently with limited partner supervision.* A willingness and ability to guide less experienced lawyers.* Residence in Austin or Dallas, TX, with Austin preferred.## Bonus points* Prior experience at another law firm that handles similar work.## Benefits* Health, dental and vision coverage* Disability and life insurance* Paid parental leave## Location and work model* Austin or Dallas, TX, United States (Austin preferred)* On-site, 4 days per week in office, with hybrid flexibility of about 3 days per week after ramp-up* Full-time## Compensation, as the posting describes it* Equity* Performance and origination bonuses* Retirement plan with matching* Flexible time off* Paid holidaysPay$180k to $225kUSD base a year
