Real Estate Attorney

A leading U.S. law firm is seeking a senior-level Associate to join its Real Estate Practice Group. This role is available in New York, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, or Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience and will support a nationally recognized team handling sophisticated, high-value real estate and business transactions.
This position offers the opportunity to advise private equity funds, independent sponsors, developers, investors, lenders, and corporate clients on complex matters involving real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, and financing. The role requires a strong foundation in both real estate law and broader transactional work, with the ability to collaborate across multiple practice areas in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate real estate purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and related real estate documents
- Lead real estate components of private equity, independent sponsor, and M&A transactions
- Manage complex real estate transactions from term sheet through closing
- Conduct and review due diligence, including title and survey analysis
- Advise on development projects, joint ventures, and private equity-backed real estate transactions, including structuring and documentation
- Assist with structuring, negotiating, and documenting mortgage loans, construction financing, bridge loans, and mezzanine debt arrangements
- Collaborate with corporate, finance, and tax teams to support integrated transaction execution
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate law at a law firm or in-house legal department
- Experience with private equity transactions, particularly involving real estate investments
- Demonstrated experience in commercial leasing, including drafting and negotiating lease agreements
- Strong background in real estate transactions and business transactions involving real estate components
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Excellent drafting, communication, and organizational skills
- Active bar license in the jurisdiction of the relevant office location
- Permanent work authorization in the United States required
