DEFINITIONTo perform a variety of clerical duties involved in the maintenance of health records referrals and reports at a school site; to administer routine first aid and assist in screening ill or injured students in accordance with State laws and District regulations; and to assist with health testing programs and other health-related services as RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from an Assistant Principal and functional and technical supervision from the District NurseEXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES--Important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:Maintain student health immunization and emergency medical records; ensure that required records are on file for every accident and injury information from students and staff; record all health data in a timely manner. Administer medications prescribed for students in accordance with Education Code requirementsScreen students referred to the Health Office; administer first aid; observe sick students; determine if additional or emergency care is required; communicate need for emergency or additional care to Principal or District Nurse; offer assurance to students until care is availableNotify parents or parents designees of students injuries and/or communicate with parents to give or receive student health techniques necessary to provide specialized physical health care services for individuals with exceptional and maintain Health Office supplies and equipment; maintain Health Office in a clean and orderly and distribute required reports; maintain daily logs for reimbursement perform other clerical duties as necessaryCoordinate schedule and assist with school clinics vision and hearing testing and approved programs by outside agenciesArrange for transportation for ill or injured students; may transport students when requiredRequest homework assignments for students; assist home study teacher in coordinating assignments for students on extended absencesProcess athletic clearance forms; verify information provided by physician; ensure all forms relating to insurance and emergency information completed and assigned for all studentsAssist school office personnel with clerical duties as related duties responsibilities and training as of:First aid principles and techniques including CPRModern office practices procedures and equipment including telephone techniques and etiquettePrinciples and procedures of record keepingEnglish usage spelling grammar and punctuationAbility to:Learn and apply applicable sections of the State Education Code and pertinent health and safety regulations i.e. child abuse reporting proceduresLearn to perform techniques necessary to provide specialized physical health care services including procedures for catheterizations ileostomies colostomies gastrostomies asthma diabetes etcAdminister first aid to ill or injured studentsEstablish and maintain files records reports and referralsUnderstand and follow oral and written instructionsMaintain records and prepare reportsPerform clerical duties utilizing modern office equipmentType at a speed necessary for successful job performanceCommunicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writingEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in course of workAdhere to strict rules of confidentiality regarding health records and other student informationEXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES--Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:EducationOne year of general clerical experienceHigh school diploma or equivalentLicense or Certificate:Possession of a valid CPR and First Aide CertificatePossession of valid California Drivers License
