Senior Field Technician

Immediate need for a talented Senior Field Technician with experience in the Telecom Industry. This is a 2.5+ years contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Wichita, KS.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of CPE equipment.
• May also be responsible for the design, administration and deployment of call center call flows and technologies, writing, changing, and programming.
• 7 to 10 years of experience.

• This is a unique opportunity to join the Wireline Network Global Operations team as we gear up to support the build plan for our OneFiber program.
• Our team is responsible for installing, testing, repairing and maintaining the technology that keeps millions of our customers connected.
• Responsible for the assembly, installation, monitoring, testing and maintenance of telecommunications and associated electronic equipment and wiring per published equipment specifications and client's operational procedures, both at technical facilities and customer premises.
• Performs service order, provisioning, repair, installation and maintenance activities on central office equipment, adjunct devices (e.g., Voicemail, etc.), inter-office trunking and terminating facilities, outside plant fiber and Right of Ways, radio terminals, Regens/CEV's, LIT building POPS network plant facilities, and on customer premises, including customer-provided equipment and wiring.
• Responsible for the installation, monitoring, testing, maintenance, repair and removal of telecommunications and associated electronic equipment, including CPE and wiring per specifications and operational procedures, both in technical facilities as well as on customer property.
• Performs testing using testing devices, processes and diagnostic procedures, calibrates, adjusts and performs routine maintenance on electronic equipment and circuitry according to published equipment standards.
• Performs fiber locates, monitoring of construction activity, fiber splicing and termination.
• Installs and configures LAN/WAN internetworking hardware to meet engineered specification and customer expectations.
• Installs and configures IP Telephony hardware to meet engineered specifications and customer expectations.
• Assembles, installs and/or tests fiber optic transmission and Ethernet.
• Assembles, installs and/or tests telecommunications equipment to include floor drilling, relay rack, ladder rack and other frame work.
• Installs upgrades and/or maintains DC battery plant.
• Installs and/or maintains generators and generator equipment.
• Assembles, installs, and/or tests transmission equipment channel banks, channel service units (CSU), digital service units (DSU), modems, routers, etc.
• Installs, upgrades and/or maintains equipment, including but not limited to routers, bridges, multiplexers and concentrators.
• Completes periodic maintenance on company transmissions support equipment.
• Maintains new and existing circuits through troubleshooting and fault isolation techniques; utilizes remote test systems to isolate and resolve customer circuit outages.
• Coordinates the testing and turn up of service with all involved providers until the customer's service is up and working.
• Performs additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
• Medical Department evaluation may be required. May require Department of Transportation Physical and Drug Screen.
• Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors and distinguish audio tones.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

• Security background investigation may be required.
• Requires an in-depth knowledge of specialized telecommunications equipment, systems and processes as well as department policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with both internal and external customers.
• Must present a cordial and professional image of our company when working with internal/external customers.
• Independent decision-making skills, strong analytical and oral and written communication skills on challenging assignments with limited to no supervision.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Preference will be given to applicants with Associate's degree or certification in electronics and 2+ years of job related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Desktop computer skills are required.
• Satisfactory performance rating in present job.
• Satisfactory attendance/punctuality record in present job.
• Must be available to work scheduled tours designated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the needs of the business.
• Associates may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as the needs of the business necessitate.
• Non-scheduled days will be required as needs of the business necessitate.
• Must meet safety-related requirements including but not limited to those standards of safety imposed by OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and/or the company
• Knowledge of inside plant operations to include but not limited to transport equipment (Cienna 6500, Fujitsu flashwave) and equipment installation.
• Prefer knowledge of outside plant operations, such as ULH, GPON, optical ring configuration & basic dc plant.
