Surgical CoordinatorWhile upholding the Star Valley Health mission, vision and values this key position is responsible for the overseeing the delivery of quality patient care through the assessment of the patient upon admission to the pre-op area, the operating room and/or the post-op area, and on a continuing basis. The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for directing and coordinating all surgical care from Pre-Operative through discharge. The Surgical Coordinator collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. This position collaborates between Pre-Op, Intra-Op, and Post Op to ensure timely management of surgery, while overseeing direction and communication between staff. The Surgical Coordinator leads by example of essential communication and collaboration between all interdisciplinary departments. This is an at-will position.Job Duties:Ensures that nursing staff provides safe, therapeutic quality to patients by utilizing the nursing process in a timely manner throughout the Peri-Operative processSets appropriate priorities for staff, while coordinating nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes, and to ensure readiness for discharge.Able to adapt and respond appropriately to emergent situationsMaintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departmentsConsults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needsAssists in alleviating unforeseen circumstances of the surgery schedule such as cancelations, add-ons, running ahead or behind schedule, and making changes as appropriateDemonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situationsCommunicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information including surgeons, anesthesia, management, and other staff as seen fit between departmentsCompletes administrative tasks as delegated to by the OR DirectorAppropriately makes staffing assignments based on patient census and acuity levelProvides direction to all staff to ensure adequate lunches, breaks, and staffing assignmentsOversees day to day surgical staffing needs of the department and makes changes according to those needsSupervise and delegate to RNs, CNAs, Surgical Techs and Sterile Techs as needed for patient careShows expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautionsAssesses, anticipates and implements appropriate management throughout the surgical processCoordinates and oversees the orientation, training and development of nursing and ancillary staff as requestedMaintains competencies to function in RN role within specific areaWill take responsibility of learning to become an educator within all areas of the departmentMust be able to flex hours as needed and/or requested by directorInteracts professionally as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.Document and perform nursing care in assigned area based on standards of care and practice, and in accordance with SV Health policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for confidentiality, infection prevention, safety (OSHA), attendance, punctuality and personal appearanceServes as a role model and mentor, providing direction and leadership to other staffKeep OR Director informed of problems or issues in regards to staff and/or patient needsDemonstrates understanding of established emergency procedures, including providing patient careParticipates in Quality improvement activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficienciesWorks to achieve and maintain regulatory certification and accreditationDemonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional practice and for continued professional growth and development through printed material or other sources and by attending meetings as appropriatePerforms other duties as assigned and as needs ariseRequirements:Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, prioritizes work to meet the changing needs of the departmentProficient oral and written communication skillsStrong multi-tasking skills with the ease of changing direction upon request as neededKnowledge of clinical equipmentSound analytical and problem solving abilitiesAptitude to apply and modify the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient careSound analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to recommend solutionsSkill to develop and maintain department quality assuranceKnowledge of modern clinical equipmentTalent to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, leadership and peersComply with HIPAA and other federal, state, and local regulations as well as maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in client and staff mattersEmbrace changes and improvements which may enhance the quality, function, and appearance of the patient care experience and facilityExcellent organization and prioritization aptitudeAbility to work in a team-oriented environment, and demonstrate sensitivity to patients, visitors, and staffAdequate hearing to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
