Early Head Start Teacher/12 Month/Cooktown

Description

Primary responsibility to promote the social, emotional, intellectual, language and physical development of each child in a safe and supervised educational environment. The Teacher must involve parents in every aspect of program, working with them to establish both long- and short-term goals that will assure the necessary readiness outcomes needed for school success. The Teacher assures that the classroom curriculum adheres to research- based, sound child development and early childhood educational principles. This includes Head Start Performance Standards; applicable NYS Learning Standards; OCFS Daycare regulations; any other applicable regulations.

Ideal skills

• Maintains accurate written records, including assessments, special education documentation, screening instruments, anecdotal notes, and documents for transition to public school and parent/teacher and home visits; complies with deadlines set by supervisor. Utilize assigned curriculums and supports as prescribed.
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet needs of all children including at-risk, special needs, gifted and for a culturally diverse population.
• Ability to apply early childhood development theories in daily classroom activities and facilitate appropriate outcomes for individual children.
• Ability to be flexible with work assignments and work schedules.
• Knowledge of Head Start Standards and federal, state, and local regulations as they apply to grant funded program mandates.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years related work experience. Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential and have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development.

The ideal candidate must have a valid driver's license, meet agency standards per position and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area.
