About the Position

Evergreen Goodwill is entering a pivotal growth chapter focused on launching and scaling mission initiatives that are critical to shaping our next era of impact and expand pathways to stable, living-wage jobs in northwest Washington. The Senior Vice President (SVP), Mission Impact & Advancement has end-to-end accountability for strategy, operational excellence, and measurable outcomes across the Mission portfolio, including credential and job-placement programs, engagement with the Evergreen Goodwill Foundation, and strategic oversight of Excel Center launch and long-term expansion. The scope may also include other strategic initiatives that support the sustainability and funding of Mission programs.

This is a full executive leadership role with decision rights, direct people leadership, and accountability for outcomes, team performance, financial results, and cross-functional execution. Teams reporting to the SVP are Excel Center, Philanthropy and Credential and Job placement programs.

This position reports directly to the CEO.

Scope of Accountability

The SVP owns end-to-end Mission strategy and performance, including:

• Vision, multi-year roadmap, and operating model for apprenticeship, credential, and workforce-development programming and curriculum.
• Strategic oversight of the Excel Center, a high school for adults based on a national model, from launch readiness of the first school through long-term expansion across the five counties Evergreen Goodwill serves
• Scalable employer pathways that connect participants to living-wage jobs and create reliable talent pipelines for employers
• Financial sustainability and diversification of Mission funding across public funding, government contracts, foundations, philanthropy, and employer-sponsored opportunities

• Engagement and staff representation with the Evergreen Goodwill Foundation, which exists to support mission programs and workforce development
• Executive-level budgeting, performance reporting, and annual and multi-year financial accountability across the Mission portfolio, with a sustainable funding model aligned to Evergreen Goodwill’s strategy.
• Member of the Executive Team which ensures the delivery of all aspects of our social enterprise

Key Responsibilities

Mission Programming & Operations: Workforce Development & Credential Programs

Set the strategy and scale plan for pre-apprenticeship and certificate programs, including portfolio design, performance goals, and continuous improvement.

• Provide executive leadership through the VP of Mission Programming, ensuring strong operations, delivery, team performance, and cross-functional alignment across program design, finance, data, partnerships, and communications.
• Build strategic partnerships with employers, education and training providers, workforce boards, public agencies, community organizations, and government stakeholders.
• Develop scalable employer pathways that create repeatable hiring opportunities for graduates and use employer feedback to strengthen curriculum, job readiness, and placement outcomes.
• Determine which capabilities Evergreen Goodwill should deliver directly or through partners, and establish operating reviews, KPIs, risk management, and decision routines to support program health and financially viable scale.

Excel High School (Excel Center)

• Provide strategic oversight for the planning, establishment, and successful opening of Evergreen Goodwill’s first Excel Center, while building the strategy, operating model, partnerships, funding, and infrastructure for the long-term vision of multiple Excel Centers across the five counties Evergreen Goodwill serves.
• Provide direct people leadership to the Head of School, who leads school administration and day-to-day operations.
• Serve as the primary executive point of contact with the Washington State Charter School Commission, community stakeholders, and external partners; establish and support the Excel Center Board of Trustees and its governance and reporting routines.
• Drive launch readiness across funding, staffing, operations, recruitment, and enrollment to support strong early performance.

Mission advancement, sustainable funding & Evergreen Goodwill Foundation

• Own the financial sustainability and diversification of the Mission funding portfolio across federal, state, and local public funding; government and employer contracts; workforce-development funds; foundations; grants; philanthropy; sponsorships; and other earned or contributed revenue.
• Identify, develop, negotiate, and manage public and private funding agreements, including programs such as WIOA, Department of Labor initiatives, and Basic Food Employment and Training, ensuring compliance, performance, and renewal readiness.
• Set annual and multi-year financial targets and align funding strategy to program and impact priorities, including building financial models and braiding funding sources to reduce reliance on Retail profits.
• Partner with the CFO to establish and operationalize the Evergreen Goodwill Foundation, including governance, stewardship, reporting, compliance, and sustainable funding practices; evolve advancement toward a strategic, program-connected model.
• Oversee portfolio performance across revenue and contract goals, pipeline health, forecasting, cost-to-deliver, compliance, participant outcomes, and executive- and Board-ready reporting.
• Represent Evergreen Goodwill with funders, employers, workforce boards, public agencies, community partners, and other external stakeholders

Strategic Vision, Planning, and Scaling

• Develop a long-term strategic vision for tuition-free job training and placement that reflects Evergreen Goodwill’s values and delivers significant community impact.
• Determine and execute the funding, operating model, partnerships, and resources needed to launch, operate, and scale that vision.

Leadership expectations

• Lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams across mission programming and advancement, with clear goals and accountability.
• Build strong cross-functional alignment with the CEO, CFO, and executive peers; resolve tradeoffs, unblock execution, and bring stakeholders along through change.
• Establish clear documentation, operating routines, and transition-ready systems that support continuity, performance, and informed decision-making.
• Operate with a builder and general-manager mindset: translate strategy into financially viable operating models, make disciplined resource decisions, and refine the portfolio as needs, evidence, funding, and partnerships evolve.

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience across workforce development, education, talent, business services, or mission-driven organizations, with significant responsibility for strategy, operations, and measurable outcomes.
• Demonstrated success building and scaling financially sustainable workforce-development, education, or talent initiatives with measurable participant, employer, operational, and financial outcomes.
• Strong business and financial acumen, including business cases, significant budgets or operating portfolios, program economics, resource allocation, and multi-year planning.
• Demonstrated success securing, negotiating, and managing diversified public and private funding, including government or workforce-development contracts, institutional grants, foundations, philanthropy, employer partnerships, and other revenue sources.
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local workforce funding; experience braiding funding streams, managing contract performance and compliance, and aligning revenue strategy to program priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to build employer pathways and strong relationships with workforce boards, public agencies, education and training providers, nonprofits, funders, and community stakeholders.
• Experience establishing and supporting governance structures such as foundations or boards, including board development, reporting routines, compliance, and ethical standards.
• Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and high-performing teams, with clear goals, operating rhythms, KPIs, risk management, and accountability.
• Excellent executive communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to translate complex information into clear, Board-ready narratives and influence across functions.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and professional discretion in handling sensitive organizational, donor, and community information.
• Ability to adapt to a changing environment while inspiring and leading a cross functional team
